Guess catapults army efficient against any AI lord or real player. There also another method to take Caliph castle: Build 20 shieds and 20 archers. Move them at his archers range, then use siege tower and 20 macemen to clear his towers. Caliphs archers will stike your archers under shields as main target, that`s how auto target priority works for ranged units. So, i think this not easiest method but fun to try at least.

I really liked to taunt fire pits with mounted knights, even if that seems be not cost efficient i never enjoyed playing with "meta" builds etc, sometimes i just play what i like visually and anyway most games now are too easy to play with such builds imo

My tactics to beat Caliph before I knew the hack/trick to block the unit recruitment buildings: 1. Have some horse archers circling the castle, they'll attract Caliph's bowmen to burn the fire pits. But make sure their movement or distance is supportive enough to prevent too much losses against the flame. 2. After some fiery area is cleared, deploy a siege tower there, and immediately move decent numbers of archers or Arab bowmen to occupy Caliph's lookout towers, walls and gates. 3. Once the opposition bowmen and fire throwers had been eliminated, melee units can easily rush into the keep.

An neat little thing I do is half a square formation sideways (maybe 20-30 archers) so it's longer in width and move that group over to cover a greater area but with slightly less damage output, which isn't needed with slave slaughterers, also building lookout towers a distance from your camp, as much as is allowed, and jamming a bunch on top can serve as a really nice spoiler to most slave raids, however playing with other Lord's makes this a little difficult as they will often attack those exposed towers very often so I recommend having them closer to your castle in those situations but still able to reach much further than ground guys ^^

I just beat the map against 2 Caliphs, last night. Once I got a wall and plenty of archers up, they couldn't touch me! And once I got some catapults onto the field...I was tearing them down at my leisure! 😀

my tactic is portable shield & fire ballista and 10-15 archer against caliph. Then I shoot with melee units.

Catapult + Portable shield combo is probably the king of Stronghold Crusader Siege. Second one is Horse Archer + Portable shield.

slingers work well against slave rushes, mix them with some archers and defend the production buildings

Yea, slingers are fantastic when you have very low starting gold. For each arabian bowman (75g) you can get 6 slingers instead (72g). They can't help against other archers but they will keep quarries and iron mines safe from slaves and spearmen.
