This is a video to go with the other two videos I have made about the Royal Navy's HMS Prince of Wales, R09, the second and final Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carrier. Here those two are:
• HMS Prince of Wales R0... - The ship itself
• HMS Prince of Wales R0... - The ship with all of its escorts
This video focuses on some of the innovations of the carrier itself...like its size, armament, the really innovative Maritime Escape System (MES) which allows six large rafts, each holding 150-200 personnel to rapidly evacuate the crew in the event of a need to evacuate the ship.
Of course if the ship is damaged and begins to list very much, they would not be able to use them all, but they have made them so they can rapidly be deployed and filled. And the lare rafts, each almost a small vessel itself, could get away and have ample provisions, power, buoyancy and supplies to sustain the crew that got to these six large evacuation vessels, very adequately. The ship is also equipped with normal, smaller life rafts, each holding 10-15 personnel that can be deployed from all around the ship.
A number of suggestions are also included for the model maker, Quality Model Ships:
qualitymodelsh...
About making their product better.
These focus on the air wing, the positioning (properly) of the sensors and equipment), the deck equipment (or lack there of), the scale. At 1/300 as opposed to 1/350 scale, the latter of which is the market and not what most buyers have bought for other other ships...along with several other suggestions.
It is my hope that Quality Model Ships can thus improve their product and be led to make a better product, at a better price and better quality, and this be able to improve their position. If they could get this ship into 1/350 scale, and lower the price below $500 to maybe $400 or $40,, they would be able to sell a lot of them...and do the same to their other war ship offerings.
So, in short, Quality Model ships,:
1) Make it 1/350 scale. In the US and around the world 1/350 is by far the preferred larger scale for model collections. Most people will not buy it if it is 1/300 like this.
2) Add a realistic air wing (consider using Shapeways and the 3D shop there called SANFU (www.shapeways....) for 1/350 scale F-35Bs, Trumpeter for Merlin EH-101 Helos and MV-22 Ospreys.
3) Place the Radar Domes in the proper places
4) Add deck vehicles. rails, sensors, equipment, details as shown and discussed in the video. Do a more thorough study of the ship and its sensors, funnels, decks, radar domes etc. and put them in the right places.
5) Add a hanger deck and make the flight deck and islands so they can be taken off, with four attach points so people can build out the hanger deck and add a lighting system if they want. Advertise this (and the others) as selling points.
7) Add KA Models and/or Fujimi 1/350 scale painted naval personnel, advertise this as a big plus.
8) Fix the S1850M and Artisan 997 radar issues noted..
9) Add the additional smoke funnels shown.
10) Consider adding a (MES) Marine Evacuation System vessel) as shown in an email I send to you.
Thanks for watching this video. It is not my intent to be critical of Quality Ship Models. They gave me a big break on the price and I am trying to help them with the marketing and sale of their product.
Please tell others about my channel, the Jeff Head Military Scale Model and Military Discussion Channel, and ask them to join.
Also, take a look at the video of the Prince of Wales with my 1/350 scale escorts all together here:

Absolutely stunning model and the models and information/knowledge you have is a credit to you. I feel privileged that i work with these new carriers and in my opinion they absolutely fit the bill that the Royal Navy needs to project its presence in various theatres. I am also an avid model builder and have in the past built many 1/350 scale aircraft carriers, however and i do hope that you take one small criticism as constructive only and that is the UK does not operate the V-22 Osprey that you have included on the model but if it is to simulate US Navy landing and visiting the ship then i will gladly take my criticism back. Yet again stunning model and all the best from myself and the UK. Brothers in arms.

I put the EV-22 on their as a suggestion. Now that Japan, South Korea and others have announced the F-35B for their VTOL carriers (Zumo class and Dokdo Class) and the Spanish and italians will too...and Australia is reconsidering and India would like them, and the US will have the two aircraft centric America class and two hornet class built up for F-35Bs, I am sure Bell will reintrofuce the EV-22 AEW...and it has significantly longer radar range and better discrimination then the Crows Nest...so maybe the RN will reconsider. They need the extra range because the range of the missiles they will have to defend against is greater than the detection range of Crows Nest. Anyhow, that's why I put it on there. I know the RN to date has not purchased and is not using any Ospreys. Thanks for your comments.

I will do so. But I have to kind of clean things up a bit first. I do have one large and really nice 6'6" tall, 48" wide. 18" deep completely enclosed glass cabinet where I have six carriers and half of their escorts. There are a total of twenty-one ships in that cabinet in our library. I have the USS Ronald Reagan CVN-76, the USS Enterprise, CVN-80 in there, the HMS Prince of Wales, R09, the PLAN Liaoning CV-16, and the two JMSDF Atagos, the JS Atago, DDH-81 and JS Ise DDH-182. Each level has one DDG, one FFG, and one SSN for the escorts (the Japanese have an SSK and no SSN), British, and Chinese. The two Americans have one CG, one DDG, and one SSN for escorts. Then back in my office area, I have eight other cabinets, six wood and two glass (but not enclosed) full of 1/350 ships, a few 1/700 ships, and a bunch of 1/72 scale aircraft. Those cabinets and everything in them get dusty so I have to clean them up. Altogether in addition to the twenty-one 1/350 ships in my really nice cabinet in the library, I have forty-seven more 1/350 scale ships, fifteen 1/700 scale ships, and then fifty-one 1/72 scale aircraft. My models represent ships and aircraft from the US, China, Russia, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, and Korea. Altogether I have sixty-eight 1/350 scale ships, fifteen 1/700 scale ships, and fifty-one 1/72 scale aircraft. I have a two carrier CSG of 1/350 JMSDF ships using the Hyuga carriers, and another two carrier CSG of JMSDF 1/700 scale ships using both Izumo carriers and F-35s. I have a two carrier CSG in 1/700 scale for the South Korean Navy to using the Dokdos and the SeJong DDGs. I am about to build a SeJong the Great AEGIS DDG in 1/350 the way I did two in the 1/700 grouping. That is altering a Arleigh Burke Flight IIA 1/350 Trumpeter Lassen DDG into a SeJong DDG adding the different weapon systems and VLS cells. The 1/700 ones came out very nicely so I decided to do a 1/350 one. I wish the US Navy would build those larger SeJong the Great AEGIS DDGs. Oh, I do have one more model and I will show it in the video. I have a wooden and cloth sail with all the string rigging 1/192 scale USS Constitution. "Old Iron Sides" in my library too. I am really proud of that old ship, which is still officially commissioned as a US Navy Frigate. She has a small crew that are assigned to her for a couple of years at a time. Usually a full Captain another one or two officers (Lt and Ensign) and 3-4 enlisted guys. It's supposedly a really high honor posting. When I was back there in 1999, I took one of my sons down to see her and we talked to the Captain for about 45 minutes. It was a great time. About every four or five years they take her out and fire off some of her guns. If you have never been there, if you get the chance, go see her. Also, buy the book, "A Most Fortunate Ship." It was written by one of the Captains, Tyrone G. Martin, that was assigned to her. Launched in October of 1797. Maiden voyage in July 1798. She has been a part of the US Navy for over 222 years now. They have a special historical forest in Indiana of the very hard White Oak used in her construction. The way she was built and that special wood made her sides so hard, that the English, Barbary Pirates and other opponents cannon-balls literally bounced off of her sides...which is how she earned the name "Old Iron Sides." That forest that the US government set aside for her is 25,000 acres of the specific types of trees (mostly White Oak) needed to keep her in repairs from now on. The privately run USS Constitution Museum opened on 8 April 1976, in Boston. They then dedicated a tract of land as "Constitution Grove" one month later, located at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indiana. The 25,000 acres now supplies the majority of the white oak required for any repair work. Great stuff to know and tell your kids and grand-kids!

Thanks Gerry, and God bless you my friend. I am glad to see our President taking out the terrorists. Despite what some of the dems and some of the press say...the leader of the QUD forces from Iran was a despot...a very evil man who killed innocents for decades, not only in his own country, but in Iraq (which included several hundred US soldiers and I could never understand why Bush did not take him out. Well, Trump did and I am glad that evil individual is off the world map now and facing his Maker. Anyhow, I had another individual ask me about doing a video of all my models in one video. I will tell you what I told him. That I would do it...but it will take me some time to clean things up so I can. Why" Hehehe...because my office where I build them is such a mess! Looks like they made a number of (some of them glaring) errors in the accuracy of this model eh? would you say this is typical or not very surprising from model makers in general or did this model just seem to have a large number of inaccuracies?

David, tis maker is new and I asked them to sell me one at a discount so I could show them where they need to improve. They are cheaper than most other Wood Models...but they are not Museum Quality or accurate. They are called Quality Model Ships.

I am surprised the UK built these ships. I understand Geoff Hoon former Defence Sec wanted them this size to out do the French. The plan is to integrate these vessels into the US Navy which means she will carry US marine F35s and Burkes as her escort.
@JeffHead-IdahoUSA
@JeffHead-IdahoUSA 4 жыл бұрын
No, actually they are full United Kingdom vessels, and they will be escorted by Daring class DDGs and Duke class FFGs to begin with, to be followed by the Global Combat Ship Type 26 FFGs. However, having said that, unless they get the strong AEW coverage for the carriers that the AEW Osprey would provide, the EV-22 Osprey, they will be in great danger against any near peer opponent that can send Regiment sized attack forces against her...because they would quickly deplete the Type 45s. Until they do something like that, that is upgrade the AEW where there is a real chance of the F-35B CAP to intercept the attacking aircraft before they launch missiles, they should not ever go into any area where there is a strong chance of attack be a near peer opponent without going, as you say, without foubling up with a US carrier and thereby mix their escorts with the Burkes (usually 3) and the 1-2 Ticondergogas that would go with a US carrier into such a high threat zone. 3 Burkes, two Ticos, two Darings, and two Dukes and two of the new US FFG(X) vessels would be enough with a couple of E-2Ds providing AEW services.
