Well Jeffree keeps selling pallets one right after another only 2-3 months difference and before it took a year or more to come out. Plus he used to have more unique themes and packaging now it’s one after another so u don’t have time to miss any new stuff coming out.

I definitely think the color story has a lot to do with it. People aren’t super big on bold/bright colors anymore like they were 5-7 years ago. This is another thing - JSC’s normalish looking pallets like the orgy one is SOLD OUT… there were multiple pallets and skin care bundles sold out. It’s a month before Christmas, like come on let’s restock some of these.

I ended up getting the Scorpio palette because I loved the tones of the greens, purples, and blues and wanted to do something colorful looks. Neutrals aren’t really my vibe but I can totally see how others would preferred James’s because it is that and is more their vibe.

Yes, I'm a bit more adventurous in my makeup applications. JC is a virtually a neutral pallet which for me is a yawner that is fine for the ordinary person. JS has very nice skin care, too. I've followed JS for years, and only recently bought a palette, the Gothic Beach and now the Scorpio. I get free shipping by throwing skincare in my cart.

I’ll be honest, I love the JS palette because I really like the color story however I understand the appeal of JC palette, it wearable for everyday makeup looks. It’s definitely being sold more because of the color story and layout. It’s basic and people are basic. JS palette looks cool but very busy so people are not going to gravitate to it. Like if JS palette packaging was basic with the color story that he has he may have drawn more attention to it. Busy packaging and busy color story… to many people would just be to much. Just looking at the color stories of the palettes, I would definitely prefer James Charles over Jeffree Star (hypothetically bc I wouldn’t purchase anything from either of these two) but, like you said, it’s about the makeup and the question is which color story would be more appealing to most consumers. I think James Charles color story is beautiful. It’s perfect for a beginner and also for someone who just likes to do easy everyday looks, BUT you can glam it up for night too. I honestly cannot wait to see you review this palette! I trust your opinion and am looking forward to hearing your thoughts. I also agree with you that JC made a lot of smart decisions with this palette launch. He made a big splash on KZbin with that very creative (albeit a bit cringy 😆) video announcing the palette. That was KZbin right? It’s where I saw it anyway bc I don’t go to any other social media 🤷‍♀️. We already talked about how wearable the colors are, he gave a whopping 30% discount AND free shipping!!?? SOLD for most people! While I really don’t like JC and the things he’s done, I can give credit where credit is due. I think Jeffree Star thought he could just stand on his name alone 🤷‍♀️ it feels like he didn’t think he had to put much work in at all and ppl should just buy the palette bc it’s one of his. It could be priced more competitively. ESPECIALLY in these times when ppl aren’t buying as much makeup. The color story doesn’t really make sense to me. I wouldn’t use half of the colors in the palette and I would probably struggle to come up with looks that weren’t very dark or too bright. And he gave no discounts or free shipping even!!? WTF JS? You ain’t that special! I don’t care for him either and I don’t buy his products but again we are talking about the makeup. When I look at JCs palette, I can look at any “quad” of shadows within the palette and create some sort of look. I heard that from a KZbin MUA once. You should be able to look at the colors immediately around one color and be able to get a look. I cannot see myself being able to do that with JS’s palette. The color story doesn’t make any sense. I think it’s because Jeffrees palette is really really colorful, so it appeals to specific people who like to look bold all the time, and James palette can be worn day to day by more people who might need to tone it down for work or school etc.

Like I said on your original review of JS' Scorpio palette, this palette is VERY underwhelming. I cannot believe I'm getting ready to type this (because I'm a die-hard JS fan), but JC takes the W with this matchup. I was just expecting MORE from JS. JS color story is all over the place. And @skelotim, dont hold your breath - if you're waiting for a sale, he NEVER puts his most recent palettes on any type of sale right after or even remotely close to when it launches. Even his fall palette BOGO didn't include his most recent TWO palettes. And I've NEVER seen a discount or free shipping EVER. I would be blown away if he did, so I'd just purchase or go to Beautylish and purchase. I am usually waiting like counting down on the day of his launches and this time I was like, ehhh I'll wait and I have every single JS palette released, ever. The only thing I was remotely into was the shiny traps and the bundle sold out. Also ipsy rn has Natasha Denona Retro eyeshadow pallete for like 30 bucks. I got it for myself as a Christmas present, those Natasha eyeshadows are something else. Like once I started using them I can't go back to other shadows cause they pack such a punch and blend sooooo well. The mattes don't feel powderey at all and the shimmers are sooooo beautiful and not flaky like craft glitter in some cheaper palletes. I have the Jubilee pallete too and it's my go to cause the fun colors. It has a beautiful brown and pink to make a nice more neutral eye and then a yellow and blue shimmer, along with a dark blue satin like shade with small sparkles in it. Such a fun pallete and I scored it also on ipsy. The prices on there are total scores sometimes, I got Tim's holy grail concealer (Kvd good apple serum) for only like 14 bucks. It's become my holy grail too, wearing it rn and it doesn't crease unless you're sweating a shit ton .

I love bright colors, simply because if I'm gonna spend my time doing my make-up, it's gonna be noticeable, lol. BUT...I literally have every one of those shades in all of my OTHER JS palettes...and if not the exact shades, close enough to where even Jeffree couldn't tell the difference when applied. So there's no need to spend even more money for the same shades. Also...the last thing I want on my palette is a pic with someone's booty cheeks hanging out.

I don't doubt that Jeffree's sales today is a fraction of what it once was, but since he is a lot older than James, most of his customers are likely not on TikTok, or buy on TikTok. I'm gen x, and I have never bought anything on TikTok. Neither products are for me. I view influencer brands as merch, and the only merch I buy is concert t-shirts, and I find palettes a complete waste, and buy singles only

I dont care about either J* or JC, just like makeup industry tea but I'd love to see what kind of numbers J* is pulling with his makeup line considering he's almost bailed on beauty industry. He has so many SKUs and even tho he is so controversial i still see people mention JSC products here and there. As for JC it's quite interesting to see that he can sell as much, but I dont think he has long term potential for success. I sense Jaclyn hill curve for him. Personally I'd go for Mario's basic palette. Good quality control, actual industry professional, very comparable branding.
