Well, so would I. Very likeable guy with interesting ideas and lyrics! I actually bought his CDs directly from him when he opened for Adam Green in Hamburg a couple of years ago.

Ha, so many behind the scenes stories about this one .... 1. Jeff gets word (maybe from Ben Ayres) that BBC Culture show is going to do a feature on him. Jeff David Beauchamp and I are touring with Jeff's current girlfriend Helen at the time. I am always frustrated with Jeff's GFs joining the band and taking time away from me and the core bands creative energies! Both Helen and I argue with Jeff and giving us screen time. I distinctly remember both of us wanting a bit of the fame/camera time. We're performing in Brighton for .....$#$$%%% promoters -- who have screwed us in the past by overcharging us for extra stupid fees - including towel fees!! One the promoters that really inspired us to take a fine tooth comb through each contract we booked with live show promoters. And get their budgets months in advance so they can't surprise us with hidden stupid costs the night of the show after we're exhausted and just want to go to sleep (Classic tactic - if you're a DIY touring band - listen up). But because BBC cameras are there, the promoters are not able to give us a hard time that evening and we don't have to argue with them that much about random extra costs. 2. The night of the show I think the promoters have booked us a hotel which we rarely do, since we usually stay at fan's houses. British Sea Power folks (Jan and maybe Martin and Matthew?) offer us their place to stay. We argue about what to do. It'll look better if they video us staying at someone's house. So that's what happens. 3. We eagerly await the release of the show to see how it came out. When it is finally released we are pretty disappointed with how it turned out and how the host approaches the material. Instead of it being a straight profile Jeff or the band the host approaches it like he's the main character and we have to convince him to like the band. He's sort of uninterested in Jeff's lyrics and say's he likes it when we start rocking out. Totally dumb! I haven't re watched it, so that is just my memory of the piece. -- I think that's all I've got. Jeff and Dave can chime in of course!! XOXO

Re watching now. Notes: 1. "Boy genius Jeffrey Lewis" - ha -- who wrote that stupid copy? 2. "A genius with an estate agents name" Ha -- are they referring to the realty TV show host? ?? 3. Ah - Uncle Victor is there on tour with us!! 4. "there's definitely something to Jeffrey Lewis, [Jarvis] Cocker's not wrong." -- Ha ... something.

I hate it when they do pieces where the journalist hasn't bothered to find out about who he's interviewing. What a wasted opportunity. Presumably he thought that the fact that he didn't know who Jeffrey Lewis meant that lewis wasn't worth bothering with.

This is why Nardwuar is pretty much the only journalist worth investing any time in. Say what you want about his style, but at least he puts a lot of time and effort into researching people he's interviewing.

While chatting to Jeff via email and asking him to bring his Watchmen lecture to Dublin he told me he actually enjoyed the movie. He said " Not great, but certainly good. Better than any other Alan Moore book-turned into-movie." There ya go.

1:40 - hang on, what sort of 'Culture Show' is this that starts moaning about poetry? isn't the point of culture programmes to encourage creative arts and creative writing?
