Thank you, you are very good at explaining the positioning!

I made a collection of my usual standard of lumbar spine lateral projections showing the primary beam and without any masking. My kind of radiography doesn't need masking because it uses collimation. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGaYi2uaqbWBps0

Isn't it 1.5 below the illiac crest, not the below the ASIS? Looks like he got the CR on the hip joint.

Isn't the centering for the lumbar midpoint, not 1/4 back? The spine goes anterior and you need the SI joints.
@chaseadkins34 жыл бұрын
The spine goes posterior and it should still get the si joints

marker on patient? doesnt that contribute to magnification
@jeffreyjobe19845 жыл бұрын
It can magnify the marker. Try to keep it out of pertinent anatomy.

Straightening the spine for the lateral guarantees that the projection will not be perfect as the spine needs to be curved for that to happen. The size of the exposed field is about twice what is required. It is also absolutely pointless putting the lead on the table. Test it for yourself. It is another example of pointless tradition being passed on without question. Why learn rules of thumb when it would be more efficient to actually learn by collimation and understanding anatomy?
