Every time I hear that tune it takes me back to a bar in Subic Bay, Philippines. It is 1960. I am 18, a new Navy Hospital Corpsman, and drinking San Miguel beer in the Club Oro. Dancing to "Misty" sung by Johnny Mathis, with "Toni" a beautiful young Filipina girl about 22. Had a terrible crush on her. Ah youth!

Great sentiment! a little dirty secret though, the camera isn't as important as the lighting here. The dark background with the soft white spot makes this video. The over the shoulder angle sells it too, it's inviting us in. Not saying you'd get the same video out of a lower quality camera, but you couldn't get the same video out of a good camera in the hands of a bad cinematographer.

@@jakestrand7693 Being a ballad has nothing to do whether it is a jazz piece or not. Jazz is the technical interpretation of a piece of music. Every piece of music can be played many different ways. The type of chord structure, arrangement, and improvisation make the piece into what it is. Jazz chord structure is being utilized in this piece even though it is a ballad. This pianist is playing from an arranged format which incorporates some jazz chord structure and styling. He is doing little if any improvisation but it is still being played in the jazz idiom.

Erroll never played this the same way twice. Although it is true that it cant be taken too fast, see his Copenhagen concert version on line to sample a rather for him untypical but equally creative version out of character. This is only one of the two songs written by himself which he performed publicly and often. It is essentially a ballad (see the lyrics which came much later) and needs a steady rhythmical slow tempo with a few contrasting bridges. The other song was the great "Feeling is believing" which is at least as great as his Autumn Leaves interpretation.

I like how you mixed in Claude Debussy's "Arabesque", blending it in smoothly. Nice work.

The moment that you're talking about, at about 2:08, is just a pentatonic scale going downwards, which is a common motif in jazz and impressionist music.
