A friend of mine had one of these '87 Aerocoupes. The 305 might be gutless by today's standards, but back in the late 80's his Monte Carlo could keep up with or pass almost anything else we ran across. Cars in the 80's were ALL gutless, so that wimpy 305 was a real killer back then. It's nice to see one of these classic beauties given the love it deserves.

People seem to forget that a standard car in those days had maybe 120 hp. So yes, 180hp was a nice bump in performance in those days. These Montes are excellent platforms to build into beasts with the full frame, rear wheel drive and large engine compartment.

Honestly, a 5.3 LS with aftermarket heads, a cam, long tubes, an aftermarket intake manifold, full true 3" duals, some Flowmaster Super 40s, a Tremec Magnum 6 speed manual, and that would be plenty of power for that chassis to make it a fun driver.
