You need to test internal resistance with a dedicated IR meter. The ones built into the chargers are wildly off.

I bought some "Tesla" cells on eBay about 3 years ago. They looked like your unwrapped cells, except they're shinier -- new looking, not salvaged. They had the same triangular positive terminal, and they had the "III" mark. I use them in flashlights.

Maybe the cells that are wrapped are from the outside of the battery pack the ones that are not wrapped would be from the inside of the battery pack after the pack was assembled the only reason they would wrap the outer cells is because they are on the outside of the pack and exposed to an extent. Just an idea the cells towards the center of the pack assembly would not need to be wrapped because they're surrounded by other cells but the ones on the outside of the battery pack they would want rap because they are visible or exposed to the outer edge of the cell pack. Just a possibility??

Big parralel packs are going to be best for those cells as I imagine with their higher internal resistance they won't be very high amperage. I'm guessing maybe 5-7amp max safe discharge per cell similar to the Panasonic ncr cells.

@@jehugarcia should have expected anything less of tesla, of course they'd know but for the DIYer you definitely need to increase the number in parallel configuration especially for power wall and high output appliances/applications when considering using higher capacity round cells typically; although there are very few exceptions when it comes to round cells but of course I'm not imparting any knowledge to you ;)

Have this Ryobi RM300E riding lawn mower, it uses 4 12Volt 50 amp hr lead acid batteries (48 volts) . The lead acid batteries made for this lawn mower are not long made. Is it possible to built an 48 volt 50 amp hr battery using 18650 or 21700 batteries. The lawn mover has a 55 amps inrush current and constant power after that is around 30 amps.

Do you know what the amp discharge rating is for Tesla 18650 cells? DeWalt uses 20 amp rated discharge cells for their 20v MAX tools. I imagine a motor to run a car needs a lot of amps and the higher the amp discharge rate the lower the capacity. So to get higher capacity they probably just use a lot of parallel connections.

maybe early on tesla was going to use 18650 for the model 3 & had started production but made a late change to go with the bigger cells so these 18650 were no longer of use & discarded & now for sale by a third party? or just chinese copies. will never know.

The central three lines are from the spot-welding of the internal tab to the bottom of the cell. The ring on the bottom is a secondary vent in case of overpressure in the cell.

Well I rather use Lead Acid Battery because it can be ♻️ pretty much everything. Plus if comparing the price right now. ✅ plus gotta say, I don't know which one is easier to get over heating. And nowadays you can maintain your Lead Battery easily and can replace cells if you want too. So yeah. I don't really think lithium is a good solution for houses because of the price, and the amount of time lithium gonna last is not really that longer than Lead Battery. Less say if Lead can last for 3 years. I don't think lithium can last longer than 7 years without a good cooling system. But even with the great cooling systems. You are still using and drawing power out of those batteries and then battery have to recharge more to run that cooler. So end of the life spend would be quite similar to lead Battery. So yeah. The only thing good about it on vehicles is because it's lighter. Save more energy for the vehicle. That's it. If you compare to a Lead Battery that can be ♻️ 99% as they said. By the time you change your Battery. That old one already been recycled. Obviously they now have the Flow Battery for big projects. But I think it's too much for a small houses. Unless they can make it smaller for everyone 😏 will be much cheaper too as they said 🤷

Need a LOT of extra care when using Tesla cells. Be absolutely sure they are balancing, and absolutely sure not to charge them cold. They will put on quite a display if not handled correctly.

With Tesla cells, once thermal runaway starts, it is difficult to stop. It will spread to the other cells. NCA creates its own oxygen, supposedly they can even burn under water. Thermal runaway can happen more quickly with NCA. 470C per minute compared to 1.5C per minute with LFP.
