What would be awesome would be to use the series voltage to power the amplifier rails directly. A lot of people don't realize that a car audio amplifier power supply boosts the voltage to these sorts of voltages internally.

Do it .

@jehugarcia I'm afraid I live in New Zealand. I wish we had someone like you dealing in inexpensive batteries. In my case, I haven't competed in a sound off since i got married 10 years ago. I have a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV with a 3KW inverter. If I wanted to run a big sub I'd use a mains powered amplifier.

you do got to weed out bad cells if you plan on making a pack but realize a simple fact - cells have a cycle life, maybe 200-400 cycles depending on initial quality, and old packs are likely to be 'all' severely degraded cells ..

14.8 volts aren't you limiting the power output that you can possibly have from 15.5 or 16.
@jehugarcia2 күн бұрын
I dont see how. 14.8v is the nominal voltage of these cells. Cells dont only work when they are fully charged
@kingrpriddick2 күн бұрын
14.8v nominal means 16.8v fully charged, this is why most automobile equipment doesn't work well with these lithium chemistries. That would blow up large sections of any normal car's electrical system. Audio amps (particularly ones designed for high power not low cost) can "easily" be built for this higher voltage. To the point that 16v lead acid batteries and custom 16v alternators were common in car audio competitions in the 90s and especially the 2000s.
@Devin208522 күн бұрын
Yes.. voltage drop isn’t linear the higher your charge on these cells.. also you can find cmax sooo much cheaper at local junkyards
