I love Jekyll and the surrounding area. It is for sure a family friendly part of the world. Sea Turtle Center, Millionaires's Village, Horton's Pond, Horton House, Driftwood Beach, St. Simons Lighthouse, Faith Chapel, Christ Church, and all are really neat. (I see y'all went to Barbara Jean's.) Georgia is not known for crystal clear water. We have 5 rather large rivers dump into the water at the coast. This sends a bunch of sediment downstream. Not good looking water but great for shrimp and wildlife. It is a grade off. Those are resurrection ferns. They are cool. They will "die" during droughts but "resurrect" when it rains. Georgia has a cool maritime forest. Back in the day, the US Navy got most of its timbers to build the old wooden sailing ships from Live Oaks on the Georgia Coast. Georgia has one of the greatest range in tides from high to low in the nation. Most of Georgia's coast is actually protected and the area has been protected for quite a while. I am a Georgia Mountain boy but love my home state's coast line too. When you go back, book a trip to Cumberland Island and/or Sapelo Island. Just go over for the day. Try the Driftwood Bistro. They have wonderful food too. If you ever see the movie "Glory", most of it was filmed on Jekyll. (When y'all have kids, you'll need a bigger truck and a trailer and an R.V. and a luggage rack and more.)

Great place to visit. I photographed a wedding there a few years ago, and also an engagement photo session. I live in Hudson, NC, by the way. It’s about 10 miles North of Hickory, and just South of Lenoir. My parents grew up here. They moved to Florida before I was born. I grew up in Florida. My dad passed away to Heaven in 2007, and then my mom passed away to Heaven this past November. So, 3 months ago I moved up here after many years of visiting extended family. I enjoy your videos. I appreciate your values. Jekyll Island had a lot of driftwood on it in the area where I photographed the wedding, and I see you were close to that driftwood toward the end of your video. Yes, you’re right. It’s like going through a little forest, and then voila, you’re at the beach.

I haven't been to Jekyll since the 80's but I enjoyed the few times I've been there. Of course in my opinion it's not beach to swim off of. Lots of tidal backwash from all the tannin stained bay waters. Walking the beach was always neat. The live oaks were awesome. All the old millionaires homes were interesting.

We live an hour away from Jekyll. Beautiful place and much more modern than when we use to go for summer fun. Doesn’t even look the same but I’m an old lady, so this was long ago. I liked it because of it’s wild quality. It doesn’t even look the same to me now. The horseshoe crab is desired for it’s blood ( by science ),and is relative to the spiders, ticks and scorpions. We would go to Driftwood Beach mainly and the trees sticking out of the sand is an eerie experience and other-worldly almost. Private ( at the time ) and secluded with horseshoes, dolphins, schools of fish and of course…sharks. 🕷️🦂🦀🐬🐠🪼🦐🦞🦑🐙🐡 I see you made it to Driftwood Beach and I pray you enjoyed your trip! 😊

Jekyll is probably one of y most favorite places on earth, though I haven’t been to a lot of places. It’s the mixture of nature and beach for me. It’s so laid back, slower paced, and there’s so much cool history. For a smaller island there’s SO much to see and do. And you guys stayed in my dream spot, the cottages. They are gorgeous and I’ll be ecstatic when we can stay in them one day. Thanks for taking us along 🩵

I love this video. So many unknowns and unfamiliars to me. The way you sandbag for support of your tarp. Amazing. I never knew. I think Austin was wearing the same booties I have, if they're Merrells. I can't believe you have to climb uphill to get to the beach. I love it. But the Ospreys. I live in an osprey nesting area so I am familiar with them and have been attacked by them a couple of times. Many happy years to both of you. You guys are a blessing to me.

It looked really lovely although it was a shame the sea was a bit grim. I knew it was an osprey by the call. I watch lots of osprey nests here in the U.K, on KZbin. We wait for them to start arriving in March, all the way from Africa. We see them re-establish their pair bond and lay their eggs. The osplets are so funny like little puff balls with a wobbly head. Now they are all fledging, learning to fish and building up their stamina for the flight back to Africa. It is amazing that these new ospreys know where to go and even more amazing when they return in two to three years time, the males always come back to the natal nest but the females scatter. I expect it keeps the gene pool healthy. Amazing birds. I love the spanish moss dripping from the trees, it reminds me of Gone with the Wind. I love beaches where you walk through the trees and out onto the sand. I was lucky enough to go to Zante this year and we had an olive grove against the sand. Glad you both enjoyed it.

The ferns that you saw, growing on the trees, are known as Resurrection Ferns. When it is dry they will turn brown and shrivel up. Once it gets wet again they will green right back up. They can stay brown and dormant for 50 years, snd still resurrect into beautiful green again, with water. Cool! Thanks for sharing! ❤

Back in the 1970s, there was a telephone communications tower on Jekyll Island that my dad and I worked on several times. It was next to the golf course and in the early mornings there would be wild turkey flocks and deer out on the golf course. I haven't been back there since then, and your video makes me want to go back there on vacation. I don't get to travel much anymore, which makes me sad, because my wife is mobility challenged, so I'm having to do it through you. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip.
