He worked at a record store back in 1979- 80. He would always hook me up with the bootlegs. He is sweet, kind and honest. I voted for him when he ran against Diane Fienstein when he was still working at the store (Venus Records? Aquarius Record Shop?). I told him that and he was genuinely touched. And he threw in this Patti Smith bootleg for free on top of the other records I got that day.

I worked at the Epicenter Zone in San Francisco in the early '90s and Jello was there almost every day I was there. I didn't realise his musical tastes were so wide, and as my own tastes get wider, I appreciate the range of things he manages to include on his records -- when I hear his records now, I hear the imprints of his wide ranging tastes -- and it is really brilliant how he encourages the people he plays with to include these diverse influences as well as their own. Jello, I have a German mom and grew up around a circle of other German wives that our American GI Dad's brought home. During the late 70's through the entire 80's Heino was played quite often at parties that as a kid I heard. Heino is held quite loftily in Germany-he's rather like a German Elvis in status. While most would consider this music schlocky, Heino is actually a very good singer with multi-octave range that would shame 90% of mainstream 'singers' today. He also rolls his 'R's' like no ones business!
