It's always nice to hear Jello talk about something other then politics, it's actually rare for him. And he was spot on about people who live in one era of music. Great video of Jello!

Leigh Foulkes I’m not telling you what to listen to or like, but seriously, there are a FUCK TON of great bands making music post-2000, whether they started in the 20th century, like Jello, or didn’t start putting music out till the 21st century, there are a ton of bands making great music today. In fact, I’d say that 2019 was probably my favorite year of the decade, rivaled maybe only by 2011, for discovering great bands and albums. The trick is 99% of these bands are underground, and/or basically the type of thing you have to be lucky enough to stumble upon, and that’s only going to happen if you’re looking for them! Seriously though, it’s easier for people to put out an album now than at any time in history, and that absolutely leads to a market and/or various scenes saturated with ABSOLUTE SHIT, but it also means a ton of really talented people are getting their music out, especially via platforms like bandcamp, etc, who couldn’t have gotten it out pre-internet takeover, and “destruction” of the industry. Also, via streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music (what I use) people have easier, cheaper access to that music, though I still think we should be buying the records we love, not only for better quality, but to support the artist. To be sure, I think that’s all a serious double edged swords, with lots of drawbacks, like any technological changes tend to be, but one of the great positives is there’s so much great music getting out out right now, to the point I actually have despaired the last couple years bc it’s just not possible to listen to all of it.

"Wanna have something to hold on to..." Exactly. The thing about digital music is that there are no liner notes or interesting art. It's so heartwarming that vinyl has prevailed through all of the audio changes. And his comment about being stuck? Yes. Though my preference may be late 70s punk and early 90s, there is always great music of any style in any era if you take the time to look and listen. Keeping your head out of your ass/era compels positive mental growth.

Viva La Biafra! Along with Iggy, Lou & The Cramps, he's one of America's TRUE R 'n' R treasures! I myself & I got into "thrift store music" (we call them "Opportunity Shoppes" here in Enzed) thanx to growing increasingly bored with what was passing for pop & rock music circa 1990 (generally considered one of THE worst years, despite the beginning of 'Madchester', but I digress...), including having my eyes opened to all this crazy-arse "lost" music from the '50s & '60s thanx to the brillo 'Born Bad' series of albums featuring 'Music The Cramps Taught Us'. Also, both book volumes of ReSearch Magazine's 'Incredibly Strange Music' became my unholy bibles, though I thought back in the '90s that I'd NEVER get to axually HEAR Little Marcy, Heino, Mrs Miller, et al. But then along came this wee thing called 'The Internet', & I discovered Audiogalaxy - one of the better file-sharing sites that sprang up after the RIAA stupidly killed Napster, and joy of joys, a musician (whose name I forget) had started an 'Incredibly Strange Music' GROUP there - HOORAY! A year or 2 later, I also moved up the coast from sWellington to Paraparaumu, and discovered a giant 2-storey second-hand warehouse who had more regular dumpings of oddball vinyl at $1 a pop than you could shake a Shaggs album at! Anyway, to cut a boring story long, collecting "unusual" music was pretty damn easy (and stress-free!) for me, as most vinyl collectors I'd see flicking through the musty boxes at Sallie Army stores disdained such LPs as 'Tony (Bennett) Plays the Hit Songs of Today', or kids' music 45s & albums - MORONS! Lmao!

In the early 70s a friend had a room mate that had some records we weren't familiar with. I can remember only three...Silver head , Captain Beyond and Hawkwind. Now I'm kind of surprised by people that are familiar with any of them. No one back then knew who Lemmy was so , it wasn't a shock that Hawkwind was a bit of a secret. But today I'm still kind of surprised when someone namedrops the other two.
