Saw them on the Spilt Milk Tour - 4th of July 1993. I was a Senior in High School. What a freakin' treat. Met Andy before the show by accident getting off an elevator..what a freakin' extra treat. Eric Dover was on lead guitars...what a treat. Roger was there. Some drunk asshole threw a beer bottle at Andy from the back while they were playing. Andy saw it coming over the crowd and ducked right in time. He said, "This next song is dedicated to you for making a complete fool of yourself!" They went right into "My Best Friend" and he kept changing the words to offend the asshole and pointing with his drumstick. Classic. Night ended with fireworks...literally. What a flippin' great night. One of my top five bands in history.

Saw them too on that tour October 23, 1993, at the Riverside Theater, in Miwaukee, WI, as the opener for Tears For Fears. I would say the best concert in 150+ shows I have attended. #2 was Supertramp, Crime Of The Century Tour, Uptown Theater, April 4, 1975 and #3 was Radiohead, Hail To The Thief Tour, August 23, 2003.

Agree with the criticisms of this particular video. It's not a good representation of how good they sounded live but as one person noted, we are lucky to have a whole video of a Bellybutton tour concert. When I saw them in 1991, they definitely opened with Hello but I'm pretty sure they had dropped the "Hold Your Head Up" intro. They had also dropped the bubble machine. Calling Sara was definitely the second song they played, as in this video. It was my first concert and a great show!

I had seen their videos on MTV but that was about it. After seeing them open for the Crowes, I made my roommate go by Tower Records (Boy do I miss that store) on the way back down to Oregon State (it was the week before spring finals started) so I could pick up the Bellybutton album because I was so impressed by them. I've introduced them over the years to countless people and everyone is amazed they weren't bigger. I guess just bad timing.

It's so bittersweet to be a Jellyfish fan. So much joy in their music, yet so sad there isn't more. If they put this music out in the 70's, they would've been classic rock giants. Power pop does not sell, unfortunately. And Jellyfish's goofy presentation and wardrobe at a time when people were tired of the frivolity of the hair bands didn't help. But, hey, they were awesome and those records are still great.

I know power pop doesn't sell. But it sold me! ... a long time ago. ... when this album was released... when I found them by a fluke. A lot of their songs were hit worthy! It's too bad they weren't more famous... I hate to sound cliche',,,,but I blame it on the music industry.
@vobaadov20008 жыл бұрын
I agree with many of the things said about this band, which I absolutely adore. It is difficult to say who is to 'blame', per se. The music industry is perhaps one of the most fickle businesses to be in. Commercial success has very little to do with talent, and everything to do with the right combination of engineering, marketing and economics. Take stock of who were at the top during their heyday: Whitney Houston; Ace-of-Base, Jodeci. The list goes on. With Jellyfish, I chalk it up to a case of 'wrong time, wrong place'. Lastly, with their incredible individual artistry, talent and ambitions, I'm not sure Jellyfish wanted to (or could've) stayed Jellyfish, for long. Perhaps, we'll never know the real story until "What Happened to Jellyfish?" comes out on Netflix. All I can say is in a world of Watch me Nae Nae, thank god for Bellybutton and Spilt Milk...
