My Boneset plant is flowering for the second year, and other than Pennyroyal, it's the most popular pollinator plant I've ever seen! I've seen wasp and hoverfly species that I've never seen before and can't identify. It even attracts spider wasps. I want many more of these........

I've heard it was one of the few plants that the Chinese took from North America to use in their herbal medicines. It was commonplace for early settlers to have these drying in their attics. The historical and medical research on these beauties are delightful.

Looks very nice! You should see my field of Late Boneset that planted itself along the back woodland edge. It’s very beneficial to the insects into the fall when it blooms.

I love it.

Northeastern native plant digest My field on back side of house is prob 40’ by 5-15’ varying. They’ve also popped up in various places behind and at front of house. I plan to leave them all this year!

I've got 4 of these I planted just this season. I bought one and managed to get 3 cuttings to root. I hope mine turn out as well as yours. Nice to see yours attracting such a variety of pollinators.

That's great! I really do love this plant and plan on spreading it around my yard. It takes care of itself we didn't have any significant rain for weeks and it looked amazing just another benefit of using natives.

I didn't plant boneset, it appears in my garden out of nowhere but it seeded and this years I had to start pulling some because they were taking over my garden.

Thanks for the comment. They're actually one of my favorites in the garden and so many butterflies on them this year! ☺️

I came here to research a plant that showed up growing between rocks along side my garage. I left it growing to see what would happen because I liked the way the leaves smelled. Well, it took off. I used my plant ID app and it said it is Boneset. I have decided to keep it, however, it's taking over and hanging over our sidewalk along the garage between me and my neighbor . The one main feature I have recognized is the abundance of flying insects, whether bees, wasps, butterflies, and flies. All of them hang out with this plant. I'm now thinking to harvest it to dry, but I want to make sure it's actually Boneset before I do all of that. Don't want to dry it and use it when sick and find out I have something toxic ...

Could these grow in the tropics?
@Jem5442 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I wouldn't plant these in any areas that they are not native to.

Is this species well-behaved or is it more suitable for large prairie plantings?
@Jem5443 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the comment. They will reseed themselves like a lot of plants do. I consider them to be moderately well behaved. Hope that helps 🙂

Definitely! Thank you! It’s plants that spread via rhizome that tend to give me trouble

it will take over an area if you let it. but it's easy to pull up when they get too thick.
