she isn't taking it out of context the line an eye for an eye is a biblical reference but also the bible stole it form an ancient set of laws. despite many people linking the whole vengeance is mine says the lord the actual christian practice was to actually allow revenge for a long time. kinda like how inquisitors use maces cause the bible says not to spill blood so caving someones head in with a blunt weapon is considered ok.

Calamity Jane is actually a real musical but I also wanted you to know that it's the pseudonym of Caliborn and Calliope's mother when she was disguised as a human acting to protect humanity from the Condesce. There was a whole thing about that and more on human history from the point of view of the Condesce hidden on skaianetsystems.com/ for a few hours (it has since been deleted entirely but I happen to have a copy of most of the site, which includes all of the cursed history)

As I learned after the fact, "Yiffyiff" is actually a pet name of one of the consorts that was with Jade when she was by herself on the ship after the scratch. As said by Jade herself when she was asleep with Calliope.
