Now, I don't think she has had the chance to show how her understanding of her powers have grown since, or how that could have a diminishing effect on getting shot in the head. Jake's problem is that he tried to wing it, basically, though his character is all about winging it, mostly

Especially since this is a story, completely unaffected by recent events, written out in advance.

She also said the "plot relevant" moments made a sound "like before", so when jade asked her to cheat on kanaya, even if rose was against it on moral grounds, she knew it had to happen. She lived in a comparatively soundless realm before those rings, and unlike before, there is no way to tell what happens when you "make the wrong choice" beyond cannon.

It was something to see his insane-sane thought! I kinda like how they interpret Hopebounds as people who close to schizophrenia (but not necessarily have it!): Hope players usually have very twisted and specific world perception, often have radical thoughts, foolishly count on some easy impossibilities that require no action from them, but have undying optimism that keeps them with their mindset alive! I'm not Jake fan btw but through time I decided to read hs again and realized some things about him. And it's intriguing

You know... Homestuck being compared to Fate is actually pretty accurate. Both are standalone stories with some characters and references to previous works in the same multiverse (Problem Sleuth for Homestuck and Tsukihime as well as Garden of Sinners for Fate), has so many spinoff timelines you can make your own multiverse out of them (both Homestuck and Fate have done this), and both Homestuck and Fate's stories were a direct result of shenanigans from previous timelines (The SGRUB session for Homestuck and the altered result of Zelretch's battle in Tsukihime's backstory for Fate).

Hey, at least they're sticking by HS^2 Jane's character roots ;) Man, Jake can't get one clean win, can he? I know that it's kind of his character, but at this point it's become downright predictable how anything Jake attempts will have a natural 1 critical fail outcome. He couldn't even fail in a dignified manner, like Jane healing after he shot her and ran away thinking she's dead or something. No, they had to make him bungle a one-tap headshot from point blank, fumble around until Jane got back up, and then get beaten half to death with his own gun. That's not really a "narrative criticism" as one might say. At the end of the day we all knew Jake was never gonna just uneventfully off Jane this early in the plot, and what happened makes sense as far as previously established things go. I'm just really over the character's gimmick.

I would consider Jake even going through with the attempt at all a narrative win for him. His biggest problem for all his life has always been that he lets his more assertive friends bowl over him. Dirk and Jane both were toxic for him, even in HS proper. He went with the flow, and took any out he could. He's finally actualizing as a Page, putting his foot down, and pushing back. Based on what we know of Page powers, he's like, finally on the cusp of finishing his God Tier journey and gaining control of his powers.

@@conflictt3224 All fair points! As I said, this isn't really criticism, just my personal subjective feelings on the character. I'm just kinda tired of him doing the same routine over and over again. We've seen him go through the "Finally putting his foot down" thing multiple times before; every time it just resulted in him failing horribly and then regressing further into a shell until by the end of HS he was borderline a background character. I knew he was destined to fail horribly in this specific point, but seeing it happen again in such an over the top way still elicited a sigh from me. Then again, the HSBC team isn't Hussie. Hussie wrote the Pages this pathetically on purpose as his personal chewtoys made up of character and personality traits he disliked, gave them a useless class and had the story dunk on them any chance he got for no real reason. The new writers are probably actually going somewhere with this. I hope.

...so i. guess i'm getting back into homestuck. and keeping up with updates. that's happening in the year of our lord 2024. ok then. god damn it EDIT: because this is bothering me: i am happy you are happy with your faith, but if an athiest was like "sure you can believe in a giant magic man in the sky. you can, but you're wrong!" it would be understoood as mean and condescending. and yea, that was mean, jen. there was... no reason to put down every single viewer who isn't Christian for not sharing your beliefs. that was rude. you can think like that all you want, but it's a different story if you say it to people's faces like that :/

The Homestuck has concluded, Andrew Hussie has left the building. Whatever is going on is no longer the original Work of Art with clear intent, execution, and authority, but an addendum, footnote, or perhaps an appendix. Dirk is fighting blood, sweat, and tears to redefine and comment on the original. Candy!Rose is getting AO3 ennui, and reveling in the big emotional Tragic culmination of herself coming in the pipeline.
