🎅👍 Whenever people ask me "What's a good Christmas movie?" I always point them towards two that are at opposite ends of the financial spectrum: Best Big Budget Extravaganza: "Polar Express" (2004). Featuring Tom Hanks playing multiple parts. Best Low Budget Heart Warmer: "Prancer" (1989). Featuring Sam Elliott (who you know from "Tombstone" and "The Big Liebowski").

I'm curious, do most Germans watch a dubbed or subtitled translation or do you guys watch it in English? I ask because my favorite power metal bands are German, yet they sing in English. I watched a video of Blind Guardian performing the Bard's Song in English at Wakken and the entire crowd was singing along.
@Skinny_Popeye2 жыл бұрын
@@SpockvsEgon We have synchronized movies so I'd guess that most of us still watch them in german. However the younger generation who grew up with the internet is pretty fluent in english. I prefer watching movies in english especially when comics are playing main characters because it's difficult to translate certain jokes into german without losing some of the original humor.

I’ve loved this film, ever since I first saw it. A few years back, I actually managed to finally buy one of the Wally World Moose mugs…..still on the hunt for the rest of the set & the bowl. Aunt Bethany was played by Mae Questel who was best known for providing the voices for the animated characters Betty Boop (from 1931 & in over 50 animated short films….the longest stint for any actress in that voice role) and Olive Oyl (from 1933). In 1988, she reprised her role as Betty Boop one final time, for a cameo appearance in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Her final on screen appearance of her 67 year career, was as Aunt Bethany in 1989's National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation….& what a way to round off a career!!! Clarks boss was played by Brian Doyle Murray…..Bill Murray’s brother!! Brian Doyle Murray also plays Noah Vanderhoff in the incredibly funny Wayne’s World!!! Love how so many people watching this for the first time aren’t recognising Johnny Galecki (Russ Griswold). Galecki is most recognisable today for his role as Leonard in The Big Bang Theory.

During the scene where Chevy Chase throws a temper when the lights don't work and he starts punching and kicking the Santa/reindeer decorations. There's a shot where he grabs and holds the Santa, punches it, and kicks it into the bushes. Chevy actually broke his pinky finger from punching the Santa decoration too hard. Chevy kicking the reindeer is actually him kicking in pain. And they kept that take in the movie.

I've got the best animal in the house story. My roommate wakes me up at 6am "Russ there's a wild animal in the house!" In the heaviest Brooklyn accent you can imagine. I'm like "dude I don't care I'm trying to sleep" but then thoughts of our dogs chasing this animal around, destroying the place and the animal and getting rabies runs through my head. So I get up and I see just the tiniest bit of its butt sticking out behind the sofa but can't tell what it is. I see my neighbor coming to the house carrying a cricket bat. Apparently my roommate and him thought it would be necessary to kill the thing. So I explain all we have to do is open the door, pull the sofa out a bit and it'll run out the door. Now my roommate was a UFC fighter, 6'2" 225lbs, covered in tatoos. Like the manliness scariest looking guy. Hes standing on the stairs petrified it going to leap at his neck and drink his blood. One of those City people that doesn't understand how animals work. So I pull the sofa out and it stars scurring around in circles on the tile floor and I hear the banister snap in half. My roommate, the big tough guy, so startled while holding the railing just broke the thing in 2 in terror. In terror over this tiny 3" baby bunny that finally managed to make it out the door. Lol

One year when I was in college and didn't go home for Christmas, my roommates and I went out in the woods, dug up a tiny sapling, put it in a bucket of dirt, and had a live tree. Then after Christmas, we took it back out and re-planted it. Nowadays, I don't really do much for Christmas, as it's just me. Something I had never thought of before was the clever way they began the movie with the Griswolds on a crazy road trip in the station wagon, probably as a nod to the first movie. Fun Fact: The poster above the bunk bed was of a model named Carre Otis and it was actually an ad. It originally said in cursive "Guess Swim". The filmmakers altered the poster, so it looks like it says Glorges Bnumfum or something.

We never had real trees either, and I prefer it that way. Assembling the artificial tree was always a Christmas tradition. We had an old one with limbs that were like green bottle brushes, with bare wire on the other end. You poked them into holes on a wooden pole based on the colors painted on them. Only the tree was so old that half the colors were faded/scraped off, so we'd have to compare their sizes to determine which ones were next. I never saw the point of killing a live tree just to have it in the house for a month or so. Not to mention the fire hazard. BTW, in this movie, Rusty (the son) was played by a young Johnny Galecki, who is now best known for playing Leonard on The Big Bang Theory, and David on Roseanne.

1. If you need someone to screw it up just call Clark. 🤣 2. GOOF: The lights outside the attic window don't match the pattern with the rest of the house. 3. My favorite part is when Ellen pulls the chain on the trap door. 🤣🤣 4. Mae Questel played Aunt Bethany. She was the original Betty Boop and Olive Oyl, This was her last gig.😇 5. In the big rant scene the other actors had Chevy's lines written on placards so he wouldn't get his lines out of order. 6. Living next door to them must be kind of like living next door to the Bundys. 7. Fun fact; Chase actually hurt his hand karate chopping the reindeer. 8. Clark's boss is Brian-Doyle-Murphy (Bill Murry's brother) calls him greaseball when he drops off his gift.🤣 He doesn't get his name right until the end. 9. Ellen is played by Beverly DeAngelo. She also played in "Every Which way but Loose" with Clint Eastwood and in "Hair". EWWBL would be a great first time share but "Hair" would give you copywrite issues. Finally, she has a couple of kids with Al Pacino. I like her better than the sales girl.😍😋🥰 10. This IS my Christmas movie every year 11. Fun fact: This is the only Vacation where Audrey is older than Rusty. 12. My picks in order: Christmas, Vacation, European and finally Last Wages.
