I love the theory that Deadpool had so much trouble finding Francis because he insisted on only ever asking about him by that name, but most of his minions had no idea who "Francis" was and only knew him as Ajax.

One of Deadpool's "powers" is actually his ability to break the fourth wall. He is aware he is a comic book character and in the comics frequently addresses the reader directly. This carries over to all the other media that Deadpool has been in, he is always aware that he is just a character. By extension knows that he will always prevail because he it the main character in his stories.

I have a theory that Deadpool's healing power is so strong that he can still feel his dismembered limbs. Which then explains how he knows he is in a comicbook because he can feel his body in the other panels.

To help you understand, Deadpool is his own franchise in the Marvel comics. He's made countless guest and collaboration appearances with heroes, villains, and teams such as the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Guardians of the Galaxy, and of course the X-Men. The reason Deadpool "affectionately" references Wolverine is because in the comics, they were both experiments of the Weapon X program. DP also likes to mess with Wolverine, knowing full-well Wolvey doesn't have a sense of humor and is easily annoyed by DP's existence. And if you're wondering, yes Deadpool is just as raunchy, silly, and juvenile as he is portrayed in this movie.

@@paulp9274 It's not that they "messed up the character", they just made an updated origin for him and because the stinger showing he was alive and aware only ran with half the showings, people assumed that was all we were getting and lost their shit, blasting the film. I'm sure had the people actually realized that it worked as an origin for his brain damage and not panned the film, we would have gotten a solo Deadpool movie much earlier than we did and wouldn't have had to fight for it as hard.

Ryan Reynolds is a comic book nerd, and *loves* the character Deadpool. So when he got to play him in the X-men origins: Wolverine movie he was happy...except the movie sucked and the character he played ended up nothing like Deadpool. So he tried to convince Fox to make a movie, even helped fund test footage. Fox said no. So _someone_ leaked the test footage, fans went wild, and Fox gave them a tiny budget. Halfway through making it they cut the budget again, which made them take a whole bunch of fun creative choices to save money. The end results were pretty darn good, and the executive at Fox who said no had to eat crow.

So yes Deadpool is indeed a Marvel character first appearing in New Mutants (1983) #98 Created by: Fabian Nicieza; Rob Liefeld. He has interacted with a bunch of other Marvel characters outside of the X-Men from Spider-Man to the Punisher and of course members of The Avengers. The reason why Deadpool isn’t apart of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) is because of legal reasons. In the 90s Marvel was facing bankruptcy so they sold a few of there movie rights off to different companies with Sony getting the rights to Spider-Man while Fox got the rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four along with any associated villains, groups, and hero’s. Characters like Daredevil, Punisher, and Blade were also sold off as well to different studios. Fox started working on X-Men releasing the first film in 2000 a series that lasted until 2019 while Sony started working on a Spider-Man trilogy with Sam Rami releasing Spider-Man in 2002. Fox then started working on a Fantastic Four film which released in 2005. All of these films existed separate from each other with Sony pretty much having zero interest in crossing over with Fox’s X-Men or even the Fantastic Four who were active in Manhattan so it would've made perfect since for Spider-Man to run into them or at least swing past the Baxter Building. Fox even though they owned Fantastic Four didn’t even cross over with there X-Men films besides a delete scene so at this time everything Marvel was pretty disconnected from each other. Marvel comics can be similar as groups like X-Men work separate from The Avengers but they’ll always be nods and references to other events for example in a Spider-Man comic you may hear mentions of Mutants or a news story mentioning the Avengers saving the day something Fox could’ve done if they wanted to between franchises but didn’t. Meanwhile while all of this was happening Marvel thought hey why don’t we make our own films and thus Iron Man was released in 2008 followed by The Incredible Hulk in 2009 starting the MCU a shared universe where each film led and built into the next where characters from each movie could show up in any future film. At the same time the X-Men films were still being released but these took place in a separate universe. Marvel did try to find ways for Fox to allow them to have small X-Men cameos like Wolverine appearing in Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011 fighting alongside Captain America but this never happened. Marvel also did the same thing with Sony and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 where they came to Sony with an idea of having Avengers Tower in the New York Skyline linking Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man to the MCU but this never happened and instead we got Tom Holland as the MCU Spider-Man. Deadpool is on the same boat existing in the Fox X-Men universe which at this point is pretty much finished as Fox no longer owns the rights so who knows what Deadpool 3 could be about. In 2019 Disney bought 20th Century Fox so now Marvel Studios (creators of the MCU) are now free to use anything Fantastic Four or X-Men related so I wouldn't be surprised if they start introducing Mutants anytime soon It's just a matter of how and when as they'll have to explain why we never saw Mutants or X-Men throughout the MCU. 25:18 So I haven't seen anyone point this out but this end battle takes place in front and on top of decommissioned helicarrier originally designed by Jack Kirby for the Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. serial in Strange Tales #135 (August 1965). The director for Deadpool has confirmed that it's not a S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier stating: "No, it's clearly not the Helicarrier. I just want to say for the record, there's a lot of groups in the Marvel universe who use flying combat platforms. It's not just the Helicarrier. A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics) has some. It could have been anything but a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. Because that would be outside of the purview of the Fox/Marvel arrangement." i personally think it's just a fun little nod or hint at groups like this existing in the Fox X-Men universe even though they can't mention them for legal reasons. 27:09 so Bob is actually from the comics first appearing in Cable & Deadpool #38 (May 2007) and went by Bob, Agent of Hydra. He’s usually an antihero and a sidekick of Deadpool a former member of terrorist organisation Hydra but defected to help Wade Wilson, keeping his Hydra uniform which is where his name comes from. Because of legal reasons Bob couldn’t be apart of Hydra as they’re own by Marvel Studios who own most of Marvel while Fox only owns the rights to X-Men so they simply couldn’t mention Hydra at all. So instead Bob is apart of this random group but who knows Deadpool 3 has been confirmed to be apart of the MCU no idea how that will be explained but with Deadpool and X-Men now being owned by Marvel Studios they’re free to have Bob be apart of Hydra.

Hearing the story of how Reynolds became a fan of Deadpool illustrates the passion he’s had in the project. He’s been very hands-on with it. From the character itself to the making of the movie to the advertising, he’s wanted this to succeed. I’m about to say something that few people will ever say. Before you see the second one, you need to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine. There’s a couple of scenes in it that they make references to in Deadpool 2.

The sarcastic opening credits really set the tone for Deadpool. The comic is incredibly self aware of the tropes of comics and the movie does the same with movies. Poking fun at the very tropes that allow such a movie to exist is very on point for Deadpool. And Ryan Reynolds is well aware of the reception of some of his other superhero movies (Wolverine:Origins & Green Lantern), so they get mocked mercilessly in good fun. You will catch more reference jokes in Deadpool 2 if you watch the X-men movies first, but they aren't necessary to enjoy it.

I like the apparence of the "Deadpool" action figure in this movie, the one from X-Men Origin Wolverine that is. Yup, this wasn't actually the first movie Ryan Reynolds was cast as Deadpool, believe it or not, but the less things said about that movie and that Deadpool the better. His fondness for the character is what got him cast again, and really, everybody agrees that he is the perfect choice for the role. He also played Hal Jordan Green Lantern in the DCverse but that wasn't very good, and even referenced in this movie as humourous self-deprecation.

I’m amazed that only one person mentioned The Green Lantern movie as one of the movies referenced in this movie that you missed the reference to. He’s a DC superhero, also played by Ryan Reynolds, and generally considered a poor movie (which they made fun of in this one). I’m also surprised not enough people warned you about X3: The Last Stand, the third X-Men movie and definitely the worst one, as well as one of the worst superhero movies period. (There are a few others like Batman & Robin that give it a run for the money.) Most of the takes mentioned here do seem to call out the best X-men movies and the other poor ones though. Fantastic Four 1 & 2 are ok-ish, but I wouldn’t necessarily watch them (and definitely don’t watch the newer FF from a few years ago as others mentioned). Fortunately a new Fantastic Four movie is coming to the MCU soon, so 🤞 that it will be good. The only real reason to watch the older FF movies is to know who a particular character (avoiding spoilers) is before watching Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, but you could also read any FF comic or watch one of the old cartoons just to learn about them… not a big deal regardless. Also watch at least one episode of the 90s X-men cartoon and the first X-men movie before watching Dr. Strange and the M. Of M. movie for maximum understanding of references.

- Should you watch Dead Pool 2 ? Yes, definitely . If you liked this one, you'll like that one . X-Men movie knowledge not required . - Should you watch the X-Men movies ? Yes, with the understanding that some are better than others ... , and that they happen in an order , so start with the first one . Also, slight slight spoiler (not really) that one of the X-Men movies tried to include Dead Pool (not the Dead Pool that you reacted to above) , and that Dead Pool came out ... almost universally disliked -- so much so that one of the "end credit" scenes in Dead Pool 2 , has Dead Pool murdering that other Dead Pool , from the X-Men movie . (incidentally, both Dead Pool's were played by Ryan Raynolds ... who ... let's just say that he has a couple of regrets in his film career ... -- which he tries to erase in those end credits, with a wink / nod to the audience) - Are the X-Men movies blending into the current "Marvel Universe" ? We need to time travel for that question : The X-Men movies (Dead Pool included) , were mostly produced by the 20th Century Fox studios, along with what was then a smaller production company called Marvel Studios . In the early 2010's , Disney went on a purchasing spree, and purchased Marvel Comics (including Marvel studios) , and the 20th Century Fox studios ( getting the rights to a slew of franchises, including Star Wars) . What does that mean ? It means that all of the X-Men movies + the two Dead Pool movies were made under Fox , and Disney is unlikely to continue that story timeline . Disney did however choose to continue and expand the "Marvel Universe" movies, which were started with Ironman (which was made before the Disney purchase) . TL;DR -- there won't be an X-Men / Marvel Universe crossover on the big screen , but in the years to come, Disney might re-boot and do their own X-Men movies, with different actors & origins .

So since you were curious in the comics Deadpool can literally never die, partly due to his crazy regeneration ability that is either on the same level as Xmen's Wolverine's or better than it, and partly due to Thanos literally making him unable to die because Death, Thanos' love interest, is in love with Deadpool. Quite possibly my favorite part of the Deadpool comics was the section where Weasel and Blind Al were supporting cast and I remember a large part of that section was Deadpool trying to die so he could be with Death. I have read most of the Deadpool comics apart from the current series and most of the first one that came out in the 60s or 70s. Deadpool is my favorite character in all of Marvel and I think Deadpool 1 and 2 are great portrayals of Deadpool. Also Xmen is not required to enjoy Deadpool however if you choose to watch them just know that many of the Xmen movies are hit and miss and they are technically on a separate timeline to Deadpool. Deadpool 1 and 2 does make references to Xmen and the figures within but Xmen has always been more of an afterthought. Collossus and Negasonic may have some roles in Deadpool but I am pretty sure they are only there for familiarity and if it is meant to fit in the Xmen film timeline we would see more evidence of it and there is none.

Then they do a time-jump/ soft reboot with First Class, then Days of Future Past (people loved both), followed by Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix (which were just terrible). Then there are the three Wolverine movies, which start terrible and get much, MUCH better (the third is a must-see!) Long story short? I mean, I'd argue a few things: 1 - The first movie isn't, IMO, "really good". At least, not in a vacuum. I think it's "really good" only if you're evaluating it on a curve; it's not about being great in and of itself, but it lays the foundation for the larger universe really well. (Nothing wrong with that, I just think if it was a standalone movie, it'd be more "okay" than "really good".) 2 - Days of Future Past isn't just not good, it's bad: it perfectly encapsulates why the Wolverine franchise failed: it was SUPPOSED TO BE the X-Men. Not the Wolverine with his friends Prof X and Magneto. DoFP was Shadowcat's story. 3 - While I'd say that only watching 1 + 2 and stopping is probably the best way to keep it "long story short"... I'd actually recommend the cartoon over any of the movies if somebody wants to watch fun X-Men stories and get the gist of it.

In the comics, most all the characters exist in the same universe, but since Marvel used to license the characters to different studios, they were mostly all separate. Deadpool takes place mostly in the X-Man universe where some people are born with a mutant gene that stays dormant until activated by a moment of extreme stress. Then they get some kind of powers and sometimes their appearance changes. The mansion, Charles Xaviier's School for Gifted Youngsters, is the same one from the X-Men films. There's a lot of prejudice against mutants, so he formed the school as a safe place for them to learn to use their powers. It's also the base of operations for the X-Men. Deadpool's first film appearance was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Wade was played by Ryan Reynolds, but they changed his mutant character so much that fans hated it. They literally took away his mouth, gave him blades in his arms, the ability to teleport, etc. The action figure that he picks up and then discards is that character. When Wade says not to make his super suit green or CGI, it's a reference to Reynolds starring in Green Lantern (DC), where his suit was both green and CGI. Colossus is an X-Men character, although he was played by different actors in the films. He doesn't always have to be metal, he can revert to normal human form. Finally, the ship that they were fighting on top of at the end, is a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, like in The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Just an Easter egg for the fans.

In the comics Wade gets cancer and is given a blood transfusion from Wolverine because he has the ability to heal fast. Wolverine’s blood is used to cure Deadpool’s cancer. They are part of the same Weapon X Team with Sabertooth. The mutants in this movie are Colossus, who is closer to the comics, and Negasonic. In the comics Colossus is Russian but the regular X-men movies has an American actor plying him with no accent. I prefer this version in the Deadpool movies instead for the Colossus character.

Even in the old cartoons Deadpool was barely innocent and quite graphic in nature. I remember in one Xmen episode someone turned one of his arms into perfectly round cutlets. He spent the most of it to one side of the scene in the background, while everyone else around him was fighting for their lives, while he tried to figure out which piece went where. (All he had to do was put the right piece in the right place and it would heal immediately) By the time he was finally finished the entire episode was over and so was the battle. "what did i miss?"

A couple of fun facts. Ryan Reynolds first appeared as Wade Wilson in Hugh Jackman's X-Men Origins - Wolverine. In that he had the mouth and the sword skills but not the red suit. Dead Pool/Wade Wilson wasn't really well received but it did make RR more determined to have a DP more closer to the comics. This movie is effectively a reboot of the Dead Pool character more in line with the comics. BTW, when he volunteers to be experimented on he asks not to have a "green suit", this is in reference to The Green Lantern another super-hero film he was in, that didn't go down well. Without giving anything away you will encounter another reference to Green Lantern at another time.

Best part about his farewell speech to his housemate was he was telling the truth... And as far as I know deadpool can die but if his head isn't destroyed completely, he grows back, he's functionally immortal and I think even as far as an ageless... beauty... you would have to remove his healing or atomise him for a real maybe death.

The amusing thing about this is Ryan loves the Deadpool character to the point he jump at the chance to play Deadpool in that one low budget universally panned Xmen movie, and in that they wanted Deadpool but once he signed up they wanted the Deadpool they wanted, one that was nothing like the actual Deadpool but Ryan was contractually obligated to film, in the end that version of Deadpool was universally hated and laughed at as was the film Green lantern.... Ryan actually worked long and hard to make the studios sign off on this film because he really wanted to portray the character as he wanted and properly, heck they even made a fake trailer to show the studio it was wanted. In the film we see a little figureen that was a call back to the mess of a Xmen film that had and he also made references to a green suit and this was about green lantern where they used cgi green suits

This almost could have been a Canada Day video (Actor and the character he plays are both Canadian). The second one is also very good, but it'd help to watch the first few X-Men movies first (would have helped with this one, too, but...) since some of the characters and concepts are based on the X-Men movies, and there are a lot of X-Men related jokes. Deadpool references stuff up to the Logan movie. So... yes, you should definitely watch the X-Men movies before Deadpool 2. Deadpool is a Marvel character (as are the X-Men), but back in the 90s, Marvel was having some financial trouble so they sold off the movie rights to a bunch of their characters to different studios. The X-Men universe (including Deadpool) went to Fox (they also got the Fantastic Four franchise, among others). Spider-Man went to Sony, and so on. Marvel eventually started making their own movies with whatever characters they had left, like Iron Man. Then Disney bought Marvel, the MCU became a huge phenomenon. Disney wanted to get rights to all their characters back, especially since they'd sold off some of the best ones, so essentially leased Spider-Man back from Sony and bought Fox outright.... Anyway, this is a longwinded way to say that X-Men and Deadpool are Marvel characters, but the movies so far are not MCU movies, but yes, Deadpool 3 will be set in the MCU (they're working on it now). Oh, and yes, Deadpool 3 will be R-rated and the first MCU R-rated movie (Kevin Feige confirmed and approved).
