As a veteran USN 86-91 and spouse of retired Naval officer 86-2011, i have been through a few of those! The one right after 911 was the longest..almost a year. My husband was a boatswains mate 12 years and then an LDO DECK so he did 18 years of sea time. I always tell people to put in perspective, my husband was only in our house for 10 days in 2 years. I would not change a thing. Retirement is great and I am proud that we served this great country. God bless America 🇺🇸 and you!

Shoutout to my beautiful wife who waited 3 hours after the first people got off because reactor department is always the first on and last off, but get no recognition, little media coverage even on the boat, and tend to feel separated from the rest of the ship.

Sadly some come home to an empty dock and a broken relationship, the death of a family member... so many raw emotions for each sailor..

So true. When I came home from my deployments(2 westpacs), nobody was waiting for me. NO big deal though, that happens. As a young enlisted sailor, you're just glad it's over. For my 1st homecoming, i was glad the cruise was over and for my 2nd, I was what you would call a "short timer"(getting out of the Navy) but i enjoyed my time in the US Navy.

I remember my first time returning to home port after deployment. I had no one waiting for me so I just watched as hundreds of families reunited. Lots of tears and smiles, lots of hugs and signs.

I served in the Air Force for 6 years, my first tour was King Salmon Airport, Alaska. When I transferred for my second assignment we were on a jet coming over the Pacific Ocean to see on the hill "United States of America" very plainly and the pilot knew most of were military so he made a maneuver so both sides of the jet could see it out of their windows, most all of us started to cry, at last main land USA!!

You know, I have my own personal feelings about the US military being deployed all over the world doing what they do and some questions as to whether or not their job is really protecting "freedom"... That being said, you cannot deny that this is a major sacrifice and I am glad they are all home safely.

Manning the Rails, an old tradition of all Navies. In the days of sail, before radios, when a ship entered port they had to show port authorities. that the ship came in peace, Gun ports closed, and all hands man the rigging and rails.

Jenna should have a special connection because she, her mother, and her aunt Doro are the sponsors of this ship. Her grandpa is President Bush during WWII he dropped the bomb that sank the Yamamoto and ended up getting shot down by the Japanese at the end of the battle. USS Finback which was escorting the San Jacinto fired six torpedoes after Bush dropped his bomb and after the hits were confirmed they briefly surfaced and pulled Bush out of the water. Bush was returned to his ship and he came home a war hero. The Navy honored him by naming the ship after him USS Bush the best ship in the Navy.
