I've moved so many times in my life, growing up and as an adult so I've always been envious of people who have a home to go back to, and a time capsule room...a dream!!! Polly pockets!!! Class of 05!

My mother hated hoarding, would constantly throw out sentimental stuff all the time. I also ran away so much+ was also homeless alot. I could never have a time capsule of anything for these reasons, would've been so nice tho

Yes!! Constantly moving homes and schools and my mom would make me get rid of stuff at least twice a year. I literally have like 5 things from childhood 😭

@@badbeachindustry1615 our childhood home was foreclosed on during the last recession. Sometimes I'll make that 2 hour drive just to drive past it with the windows open to hear things like the tree frogs or a lone barking dog to remember the things that made me so happy. Then take my dog to the dog park where I used to go do homework in if it was nice outside. I am so sorry you know what it's like yo be homeless. I was there for only 6 months last year due to DV. It was hell. I hope you never ever relive homelessness again.

Same! I moved 6 times in one year about 3 years ago. I lost so so so much in that year. My only family in my area (my grandmother) wouldn’t let me keep anything that was very important at her house while I moved.
2 жыл бұрын
Same. I went to a new home and high school every year. When we moved AGAIN three months before graduation, I kept everything in boxes because I didn't see the point in unpacking. It made my mom so upset that I didn't want to "settle in" to or new "home" but she didn't yet know I was planning on moving into a dorm at the University coke August.

Oh man, I just moved away from my childhood home. I had this really cute light switch cover, it was Winnie the Pooh themed. I deadass unscrewed it and took it with me. I miss our little old house so much. Recently I went back just to see how they staged it and stuff, and it was such a strange experience. Everything was familiar. The sound of the breeze, the barking of the dogs, the sound of the streets… it made me tear up.

My mom would NEVER...I used to collect a lot of Disney stuff and 95% of it was Lion King themed. Stuffed animals, books, picture, the music books so I could play on the piano and sing. My mom always told me to hang onto them because they would be worth money someday. Selling those items is the only thing that's keeping me financially afloat and from getting a second job. And a lot of that money is going as a downpayment on my first house 😊 It hurts like hell to have to sell them and say goodbye to the things that brought me comfort as a kid. Wherever they end up, I hope they make someone as happy as they made me. Our childhood house was foreclosed on during the last recession but I miss my pink walls. The sound of the tree frogs at night from the woods behind the house. The sound of one dog barking that started the morning chorus of dog barks. Even my old swingset and treehouse. God I miss that...

It seems like a small thing, but I think it is a sign we did not grow up in a very healthy family. My family dynamic growing up was definitely... disordered and my mom immediately cleared out my room and changed everything about it the moment I moved out. I think even well into adulthood, there is just something grounding about the familiarity and stability you feel coming home to a place like this. Emotionally mature parents are more likely to realize that, I think.

@@SD-ne3qt are you serious? Haha, I don’t know one person who has a time capsule room back home like this chick “supposedly” has or that is shown a lot in movies… what college age girl leaves a Dooney and Burke handbag behind? Or their bathing suits or all their toiletries/perfumes? She didn’t need those things when she moved out? Bet you anything this is 90% staged, she makes a living off this Y2K flashback type videos after all. Parents repurposing your childhood bedroom when you move out is not a sign of an unhealthy upbringing… come on geeze

I remember when I moved out on my own I was moving into a studio apartment and didn't have enough space to hold everything I owned so I asked my mom if she would keep my room undisturbed or even just box everything up and leave it in storage and she completely refused, she made me throw everything from my childhood that I loved with all my heart and charised most in this world and throw it all in the literal dump, my uncle picked up trash from friends he knew who lived to far out of town to get the city/town garbage men to come pick up there trash once a week, so my mom made me throw everything of mine that I wasn't able to take with me when I moved and throw it in his truck and he drove me to the actual dump and I had to toss it all away.....I had never been more pissed off at my mother, I flat out refused to speak to her for years after that and then unfortunately she died and I never got the chance to see her again before she passed. So I'm conflicted in my feelings about her death...like in one hand she was my mom and raised me and loved me in her own fucked up way....but at the same time....I can never get some of the things she made me get rid of back, some things were one of a kind collectables that I had collected and saved since I was a toddler. All my books and movies that I loved that I spend over 20 years collecting, everything is just gone

When the time comes you probably won’t. It’s an empty room that you have to keep tidy and since most adult have their own life, even when they come to visit chances are they wont enter the room at all. Maybe once in a blue moon for feels. I would never want or expect my mom to do it. Or even hold on to my stuff. I want her to enjoy life, travel, move and be free to do whatever she fancies.

My childhood house burned down with every single memory I've ever had. This video left me ugly sobbing and I had to call out of work. Why did I click this. Never realized how much losing every memory of my childhood affected me

Wow that’s amazing. I wish I still had my childhood/ teenage things for memories. I lost all that.

I literally have the same little gold box with tiny mirrors on it only mine was pink!!! Haha so funny. I graduated high school in 2015 (should have been 2014) so I’m a younger millennial / zennial lol but I totally relate way more to the millennial upbringing opposed to gen z. Especially because I had a young mom who you’d classify as a xennial and a cousin who was a couple years older than me so growing up with her and her friends always kept me hip and in the know of course. This video made me feel so nostalgic thank you for this. ❤️

Dang. I almost forgot about the Got Milk? posters. I loved all the different ways they splatted that slogan onto pictures of people. I loved the iPod ones too.

A real time capsule, lol! Your room screams late 90s/early 00s. By the way, I was born in 2000 so the magazines are as old as me. Wow. Loved the video😍

I am a few years older than you, graduated HS in the year 2000. So some stuff is geared a little too young for my age at the time but a LOT of the stuff I do remember as being factually accurate for myself as well. Not the olsen twins stuff but the Paris Hilton, Laguna, The Hills, and “fashion” is spot on haha

I honestly don’t remember the 2000s much. I remember the things kids do, like how my house then had a 90s style to it, and my neighbors had this cat my sister and I would always play with. Or how ice cream trucks were still kinda a thing. VHS was how we watched all our movies, I had a CD player that I broke, and I thought DVD’s were this weird new thing. Adults back then were so mean too. My sister, our friend, and I would run around the neighborhood, on our own, and got yelled at so much by random old ladies…. I feel like that wouldn’t pass now.
