I learned SOO much from this workshop! I can't wait to watch all of your videos (and then jump on Patreon!) One thing I would love to see you address is how things might be different for lefties. For example, I struggled with making the 'teardrop' shape, until I realized that I needed to work in the opposite direction. Once I started 'pulling' the brush towards me rather than 'pushing' the brush away, they came out beautifully! I'm sure there are other lefty hints that I am missing too. Whatever the case, your videos have been so helpful!

Jenna, thank you so much for your generosity and commitment to those who long to learn to watercolor. You’ve just made it possible for those of us who can’t afford these classes, who don’t have the means or ability to get to a local class or for a variety of reasons cannot make local classes happen for themselves. I spent a fortune of classes years ago and got nowhere but frustrated. Now I’m in my 60’s, am a bed-ridden paraplegic who cannot go anywhere but a doctor’s appointment via medical transport because I cannot bear the pain of riding in a vehicle without being in my power chair with my legs stretched straight out in front of me. Now I can pick up a brush, get out my paints and watercolor paper and apply what you are going to teach me- at my own pace and physical capabilities- in my own bed! I’ve been watching your tutorials for awhile now and am inspired to get going again. It’s always been a dream of mine to watercolor and now, because of your generosity and cohesive teaching style, that dream will come true. Your tutorials can take me where I cannot go. Thank you from a very grateful heart!👩🏻🎨🖌🎨 ♥️

Ciao from Italy. Do you know that feeling... when you're about to cry of joy? Yes, this si me right now. I'm the equivalent of a child in front of a Christmas tree, eyes wide open, open mouth, and an amazing sense of gratitude for this video and channel. I'm almost 50. I've always wanted to learn everything about watercolor, but I'm repeating the same mantra since the beginning of times: "I cannot draw". False statement of a lifetime. I collected watercolors and brushes during the years, but I get depress every time I try. My negative mantra kicks in right on time, and I put the colors away till the next time. Your gentle and precise videos are keeping me on track with my practice. THANK YOU! Thank you for awakening my inner artist, and bringing joy into my life.

I think you are missing the basics of water in watercolor for a true beginner. This is actually a bit more of an intermediate lesson session, in my opinion. A lot of people abandon watercolor because of the frustration of dealing with water. I was very lucky to study watercolor in Italy when I lived there. The water is the number one component to master for painting. The first thing we learned was how to control, add and remove water and WHY. We had to identify absorption on different substrates. We did this at first using only blue paint and nothing else (so we would not be distracted by color). We learned three different ways to add water to our work and why - dipping a brush into a jar of water - using a spray bottle to keep the paint pallet from drying out, using a squirt bottle to add water directly to a wash without muddying the wash. We spent more time on that part of our learning before we moved on to color theory and technique, because we would not get the results we needed if we did not understand the essentials of water.

That's rather interesting, and as much as I love Ms Jenna, and so appreciative of her generosity because she has given so much time and effort to teaching, and a person can learn a lot from her generous freebies on here. I tend to think you are exactly right. As a complete beginner, I found myself getting confused and rather in a state of information overload with her on the whole aspect of color theory and composition. I think you a re exactly right with learning about how the water works, how it moves on the paper. Perhaps, not delving so much into colors at first would be helpful. However, I can also see that much of that aspect would probably only be accomplished with a whole lot of practice. I was also discouraged with the whole aspect of using expensive papers for practice, though I could understand her reasoning for using the quality expensive stuff, for a beginner, it is going to take a Lot of practice with the water and making many mistakes and simply playing to learn. You are going to use up a LOT of paper. I checked and the brand she recommends is at a cost of about 2 dollars American per page!!! That's just way more than I could afford for simple play and practice. I do appreciate her, and still can learn so much from watching her videos. This is invaluable information and lessons that she gives so freely!!!

I just wanna let you know you're a literal hero. I mean, you cannot fathom what this means to me. (tl;dr- i desperatley needed something like this to over come my fear of failing and wasting that developed over years of disconnect) It may seem a bit wierd but I come from a family where after like 7th grade, my art being my talent and aptituide became something to avoid talking about cause it was a hindernace to my studies, and my marks would suffer and in teh long run prevent me from becoming a doctor. And it wasn't like me and my indian parents could afford expensive (they aren't even expensive by western means, but because of the currency chnage, in india, imported stuff is super lavish) art supplies so i was always afraid to give it a try and fail. This year, finally I managed to clear my entrace and asked for art supplies as a gift! it's been like 6+ years of disconnect with art. And although we've passed that phase of not being able to afford stuff, the fear of wasting supplies still is with me. I'm so so glad, I could find this! I've been so scared to even use my paints cause I just didn't know where to start. And alot of the good sources I found, that i could learn from, sort of always started at slightly intermedieate level. this is literally what I needed! And you've put it out for free. If you happen to read this comment, I cannot thank you enough, seriously.

Watching first to have an idea & get supplies 🎨 together then will watch again to paint along with you … So nice 👍 to do this from the comfort of my home with a tea 🫖 & puppy 🐶 makes a lovely afternoon 😊

It's been over 20 years since I did watercolour painting at school, and my teachers never went into this level of detail (I guess they went with the principle of you'd either be good at it or not, by complete fluke!) Thank you for explaining all the things I needed to understand about tones and hues and even how to hold the brush, it completely appeals to my scientific mind and the need to understand how all things work

Unbelievable! I've put off learning watercolour for the reason I think many of us do - the rep that it's so hard to learn! But I realized I just need to learn some basic info & techniques for use in my mixed media. I'm only 12 mins into your vid and I'm feeling so grateful for the clear (and humorous!) instructions and tips. I will share this with my other procrastinating MM art buddies! Thank you, Jenna 😊🎨

Thank you Jenna for your KZbin videos. I am rather new to watercolor and I can’t tell you how happy I am to find your Complete Guide to Watercolor video. It’s just what I needed! I started an intro into watercolor class yesterday. Even though I’ve used watercolor off and on for a few years I’ve realized I need to start completely over because there is so much I need to learn. Your channel has me excited to get started again! So a huge thank you!!!

Thank you so much Jenna! I started painting with oil paints as a teenager and I’m quite detail oriented. I’ve been wanting to do looser painting with watercolors but find myself reverting back to detail and I get frustrated. You video is teaching me to relax and go with the flow, literally. Thank you for making this available to us all! Blessings to you!

Hi Jenna, I just want to say thank you for sharing all the tips, tools and tricks to paint magic with watercolor. I am also selftaught, trying to get info and practice out of books and internet for years now and still a beginner and lot to learn. Its really nice to have all the important basics in one video, it gives confirmation but also everything comes together, reminding me what and how to practise. I love your videos, your explanation is clear, fun and easy to follow, it also gives a peace of mind. I subscribed on your website for the free ebook but I also bought your 'Everyday Watercolor'- book. Im planning to practice everyday in October, making it a watercolor month. I just noticed your video is already 2 years old, wished I discovered it sooner :) Greetings from the Netherlands

After watching ONE (this) video, eye MUST subscribe! Don't know if it has anything being a Gemini, but it's difficult to choose the meal eye want to eat from a restaurant's menu, what eye want to draw, which yoga channel to subscribe to and which artist to follow. BUT, Jenna has this natural nurturing energy to her; soft spoken, uses words that are easy to digest and that sticks for someone who's second language is English which to me translates to patience and we can ALL use patient teachers upon learning ANYTHING new. Thank YOU Jenna Rainey for leveling up the Collective in the forms that you do and have yet to discover. Blessings to you and yours, from New Orleans.

Thank you much for sharing all your wisdom with us!!! Your very good at teaching!! I am a beginner! The most I’ve done is background watercoloring for homemade greeting cards and neurological drawing over water paints! I watched many different videos by Rav. I’m really wanting to learn what you are teaching!! I had a small business for about 15 years! I was struck with muscular sclerosis, fibromyalgia, and Trigeminal neuralgia . My left hand is numb and I have decided to stop creating anything more at this time because everything I made was very technical and required two healthy hands. I made miniatures from polymer clay, created many Resin art pieces, stained glass, and my biggest sellers were my jewelry creations!! I have at least 200 necklaces on hand , earrings , bracelets and anklets. I also did big tree of life creations made on 3 foot metal rings as well as small and medium sizes. I decided to hold onto all my drawing and painting supplies as well as a fee silicone molds to use up what resin I have on hand!! If you know of any craft supply stores on the west coast (Taft, Ca) that might want to buy a very large bead supply could you let me know. I know that’s a lot to ask but it never hurts to ask! . 😁 I’ve got to rewind your tutorial cause I lost some of your great instructions! Id love to get that color code book!! I truly appreciate you!! I intend to watch all your videos!!! Thanks again and have a beautiful day!!
