Everything she says in her book about what she went through. It makes total sense because you know her mom forced her to do acting, but I don’t think she minds doing the singing career part, because she does have a really good singing voice, even though she retired from acting and being in the entertainment industry, it’s great to see that she knows that we still like listening to her country music and watching her on Nickelodeon shows.

Excerpt from I'm Glad My Mom Died. "Not That Far Away,” a song written from “my” point of view (by a couple of songwriters I sat next to for a few hours) to my mother, about being on the road without her and how much I miss her, even though in reality I’ve never spent more than a few hours away from her in all my eighteen years I don’t know much about music, but I know as I listen to this song that I find the rhythm un-rhythmic, the melody one-note, and the production outdated. I express none of these thoughts because of how much Mom loves it. Tears are streaming down her cheeks. Granted, I don’t think they’re just tears of joy. There’s a weight to them too, a significance, and I think I know why. Life has imitated art, if you can call this song that. (You can’t.)

Watching after reading about her process writing this in I'm Glad My Mom Died. It's so sick how they had her portray this image of an independent young woman, when in reality her mom was encouraging her anorexia and showering her still. God bless Jennettee, I'm so happy that this song rings truer now for her life than it did then. She deserves independence.

It is absurd to have her portraits, but even though she has done bad things to her, she loves her mother very much and can't help but thank her for making her what she is, even though her mother took a very questionable way in her upbringing.
@zoeythedaydreamingsinger5 ай бұрын
@@laurabonadies7974tbh I see how strong she’s become now, and she’d never be able to spite Dan Schneider making double the money off her book than she did on Nickelodeon if not for her upbringing. People often say that her mom doesn’t deserve her forgiveness, which is true. Jennette has said that she doesn’t forgive her mom… but by what I believe about forgiveness, it isn’t something that is for this other person. It’s something for you to come to a sort of indifference to who hurt you, maybe a sadness that they brought themselves to be the way they were. Forgiveness is coming to peace with what you’ve encountered with said person. I think Jennette does forgive her mother in this sense, rather than what everyone wants us to believe about forgiveness… that it’s forgetting.

Sam was my favorite and I watched icarly and Loved it and collected everything because I caught an episode while I babysat my best friends 9 year old. I was 36 at the time. Spencer and Sam with the blow dart paint guns. When Sam stood in for Carly at the pageant and tap danced --- she was incredible and I was shocked and those people running that show knew I would be. And I told people. And they started watching it. And then Sam and Cat came on and I STILL loved Sam. I missed Spencer, and I couldnt stand Cat. But then Ariana came out later with 99 Problems and I think she is an incredible singer, Im so sorry Jennette. And I really feel I need to say Thank You because you gave me so much joy. And a lot of difficult times happened to me that you carried me through. You are actually a truly gifted actor for putting on a smile during all of this horror you personally endured. This book is only half read and Im bawling. So if i ever cross paths with you, I will be the one who respects your privacy. I will be the one you dont even know recognized you. i will be the one silently reading every book you ever write on any subject. Because your acting only brought me joy. But your writing has reached down my throat and grabbed my heart. Just : thank you thank you thank you.

I’m watching these videos with such different eyes now. Jennette McCurdy was a major role model of mine (and still is to this day), but after reading her new memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” for the second time and hearing sing about a dream that she didn’t even really wanna chase but did it for her family and to make her mom happy… I don’t know, it just opens such a brighter light now.. I love you Jennette and I hope you are loving the real life that you want to live now. I’ll always be your number one supporter. 💜

I just finished reading this part of her book. The fact that she had just found out that her mother's cancer had returned and she didn't even want to go on the tour is haunting. I feel so sorry for her, but happy she now gets to do what she truly wants.

Verse 1] They're playing guitars with stars their eyes on Broadway They're just paying their dues And waiting for news on a big break [Pre-Chorus] I wish you were here 'Cause sometimes I get lonely Guess I'm not the only new girl in town [Chorus] Momma, I promise I'll be alright I'll call to say "I love you" every night I'm just tryin' to write the story my life You know all about this dream I gotta chase I get a little closer everyday California is not that far away I'm not that far away [Verse 2] There's so many new faces And beautiful places in this town I'm learnin' the ropes on this crazy road I'm goin' down [Pre-Chorus] I'm makin' my way No one said that it'd be easy Trust me, believe me I'm where I belong [Chorus] Momma, I promise I'll be alright I'll call to say "I love you" every night I'm just tryin' to write the story my life You know all about this dream I gotta chase I get a little closer everyday California is not that far away I'm not that far away [Bridge] We're miles apart But you're in my heart I keep you with me everywhere I go [Chorus] Momma, I promise I'll be alright I'll call to say "I love you" every night I'm just tryin' to write the story my life You know all about this dream I gotta chase I get a little closer everyday California is not that far away I'm not that far away [Outro] I'm not that far away I'm not that far away

She has a great voice. I didn't know she could sing until I stumbled upon her music on Spotify. She needs to make another attempt at a country music career. This is more 90s-style country and that's wonderful. I'd love to see her at the Opry.

This song definitely hits different now that we know the truth, but I still listen to it on occasion for her voice. I was in awe of her as a kid. She was always so happy and outgoing, but I do remember in later years thinking she looked sad and withdrawn in the background of those behind the scenes videos. Now we know why. I’m glad she’s doing what she actually wants to do now and has her own voice. Can’t wait for her novel.

I still find this song beautiful for what it could mean to someone in real life, and I think Jenette sounds wonderful. But I’m glad I know the truth after reading her book. A lot of art is made for other people, for better or worse, and that’s as far as it goes.
