This is a very nice recording of a Steve Allen composition that never received the recognition that it deserved. Jenny has such a delicate ease in her voice and delivery style; so comforting to hear. She would often appear on Steve's late night show that he did for Westinghouse Broadcasting between 1962 and 1964; He would introduce her as Jenny "boo" Smith; I never understood why. Thank you for the posting; it brings back memories of truly entertaining television

Jennie Smith was my favorite female singer on the syndicated Steve Allen Show.

None of her record companies could figure out how to effectively record and package her. She pretty much was sold as a wistful All American girl when actually she was more an expert and wise jazz singer. I think that market was missed totally in the interest of capturing a pop market. She recorded a lot of worthless material and even at one point did a cover of Joni James' "Why Don't You Believe Me," on which she sounds uncomfortable. Then there's "Murder for Roberta," a career-killer.

A Steve Allen composition - and Jennie was a too-frequent guest on Steve's Westinghouse TV show - probably because she was Steve's mistress, as widely revealed by many who were on the scene in those days. Jayne Meadows wasn't amused.

Her vocal tone is in the mold of Connie Stevens and JOannie Sommers, only better! cool singer!

you'd never know she's from west virginia, not even a touch of twang in her voice.
