After coming to terms with the issues in part 4 we jump in and start dismantling the PW 50. My main goal was to remove the engine and have a look at the top end and crank, but to do that many of the chassis components need to be taken off.

7:50 For anybody trying to remove tight screws, pick up a impact driver set. They are basically a screwdriver that you hit with a hammer. The impact does two things. 1. Drives the screw bit into the screw for better connection. 2. rotates the screw to loosen it. Thiis prevents the screw from gettinng stripped. They cost about $40.

Little tip for breaking Phillips head or JIS screws loose if you don't have a impact driver, take a large end punch and place it on the top of the screw head and smack it a few good blows with a hammer, should pop loose easy then

Rope in the spark plug hole or impact gun to rattle off the nuts, OR best yet is the proper flywheel holding tool, I've used mine more times than I can shake a stick at, they look like vice grips but instead of jaws they have a long nose that is bent at the end to hold around a big bike clutch basket, and pins to fit into flywheel holes, they are TUSK brand from rockymountainatvmc

I would get a honing wheel and clean the cylinder up myself and get a larger piston and rings if i had to, and shave the head and make it work as well, even if I had to dremel out the head to fit the piston, and repolish it as well. That will give it more power, put a new crank with rod bearing and end crank bushing or bearing whatever it calls for. Then you know what you have and that it will last a longtime and may even make it last longer to sell when the boy outgrows it.

@jackrutherford-1 7 жыл бұрын
Interested to see if you will need a new crankshaft. I'm betting you don't but I've been wrong before. I assume the old crankshaft would have to be bent to merit replacement. Also you may be able to hone the old cylinder or the other old cylinder depending on the scoring damage.
@jackrutherford-1
@jackrutherford-1 7 жыл бұрын
piston stop would do the trick but you would have to put the top end back on or a clutch holder but if you insert it too far you can damage the coils.

Most of that ill engine looks ok, that's a supprise as the oil had water in it, i think. The penny sounds good enough, copper/aluminium is soft so it won't kill the teeth, but take up the play on the flywheel side first before using a poor mans impact, smack the end of the ratchet fast with a lump of wood to loosen the nut :-D. The little piston reminds me of a puch maxi engine piston, cute but often at 10:1 compression. I'm glad you havnt given up, it's a cute machine :-D

You probably fouled the plug the first go round since you didn't have much fuel, but you had oil injection. It started first kick because the plug dried off a bit since the previous attempts.

You can replace the whole engine on a 50cc mini moto dirt bike for £40 delivered in jolly old England. However, finding a bargain enduro project is nigh on impossible. By the time you buy a non runner & do the necessary work, you might as well get a decent one. Enjoying the videos very much though. I enjoy doing exactly what you are doing, but struggle to find anything cheap enough to bother with.
@MrLarsgren
@MrLarsgren 5 жыл бұрын
usually i just use a hammer shaft under the piston if piston is gonne be replaced anyway.. or on engines with exposed flywheel i made a piece of wood with a leather belt attached to it. good for tightening and taking stuff apart. fit all sizes and can be found for a few $ in second hand stores or just cheap chinese junk belts.

When you try to use it place it on the screw that you are trying to undo or do up then twist the body of the driver fairly hard in the direction that you want the screw to turn then hit the impact driver with a hammer, that seems to be the best method of using the tool! Nice set of video's by the way, I watched them at work and managed to 'use up' at least half of the day!
