Jennifer did a wonderful job of seizing the big opportunities in her career. She made it to 3 slam finals and 1 Olympic final...winning all 4. In 3 of the 4 she dropped the first set. In the AO final against Hingis she was down a set and a couple of breaks and came back from multiple match points. Fearless to the end. Legend of the game.

I was nowhere near Caprati's biggest fan...but I gotta say, I was so proud of her when she won the French. There was a time, when I never thought she'd win a grand slam...let alone, the one that has been a nightmare for Americans, historically, if your name wasn't Evert (Lloyd), Serena Williams or Courier..all of whom won it more than once. And Capriati won it against a player in Clijsters, who was born and raised on the red clay. So, to me...winning the French was her biggest win.
@jamesbedukodjograham55082 жыл бұрын
For an American this is a real achievement because very few do win a grand Slam on the clay courts coz most Americans grow up on Hard Courts you know.
@raygordonteacheschess5501 Жыл бұрын
The alarm went off when she was twenty-six and she got serious. She always had the potential.
Capriati was one of a handful of players, like Sharapova, who didn't grow up playing on clay yet found the ultimate success on it. Kim's kindness and decency is on display at the end.

@@hood_psychologistKim was famous for losing her first four major finals. Had she won this one, she may have felt less pressure in subsequent majors and reeled them off earlier in her career. She may have had less nerves in that AO semi against Serena in 2003 for example. One major won between 2001-2009 is a bit of an underachievement for her.

Yet she's 4-0 against Venus and 7-10 against Serena in their head to heads. During the two year seasons period she won her three GS in 2001-2002, her win and loss records against both sisters were 9-3. All 3 matches were against Serena in 2001 and she never beat Venus. What does her incredible form of dominance say about that statistics? Haha

@@brenchengbrencheng4794 there is no need for your response trying to undermine the praise I'm giving to Capriati about the quality of her tennis. The point I'm talking about isn't about wins. People are very divisive about Jennifer Capriati they seem to love her or hate her. Just think how good she might have been without all the nonsense but I'm glad she was able to achieve some level of success. It wasn't Serena Williams level but no one can take away from her that she is a gold medalist, a former world number one and a three-time grand slam champion which is more than most people ever get. @@orbitalwarrior I didn’t start watching tennis very closely until 2007. I watched Wimbledon before that but not much else, was just a tiny little kid. I said I did not know. Yeah she played way too defensively. The only time she was ever offensive for the the whole match was the Olympics against Steffi Graf. She definitely didn't go for shots enough. I always enjoyed Jennifer's technique, movement and game play. I only was not rooting for her against Hingis, but she was beating her in 2001 when Hingis had injuries and loss of confidence..that was a big change in pscyhology of their matches as Jennifer did not like playing Martina prior to 2001 as Hingis would regularly change the rhythm, pace and direction of balls which Jen did not prefer. That was her only weakness apart from her unreliable serve on occasions.
