You know even victims of crimes often ask for cigarettes? Even violent crime victims? It's a natural response to "need" a cigarette if you're addicted to nicotine. It will stop the nerves and shakes and get you through a few more minutes of hell. She probably didn't ask about any victims because she didn't want to hear it. She wasn't ready. She was still in a state of denial and shock and her brain reacted with an avoidant response. She just wanted them to shoot her. Or get her a cigarette. She was texting people about Ethan being the shooter which shows she was just desperately seeking support and validation that her son wasn't the type to do what he did. And yeah she deleted some texts because she was having an affair. She's not mom of the year, you're 100% right about that. But she's not the reason Ethan chose to kill his classmates that day. Ethan was a smart kid. His video "manifesto" is spot on, yet he chose the path of darkness to combat it rather than light.

there are a lot of bad parents in this category. The child was clothed and fed and taken to school and extracurriculars. His parents were aware of his grades and knew his friends names. There are lots of parents who dont seek care for mental health. There are a lot of depressed or anxious teens who will never see a therapist. There are a lot of behaviors that parents ignore and hope they grow out of (though mutilating animals hopefully is not a common issue) I am a child of the 80s and no one was seeking mental help for their kids, even in pretty dire situations. I think the difference here is 1. the gun access 2. really checking out of his life and not connecting the many many issues. killing animals, obsessed with guns, dealing with a series of deaths, drinking excessively, drawing guns, openly acting depressed, grades declining, school calling with behaviors. I think at the end of the day, they didnt like their weird kid and they were just waiting for him to be an adult and be out of their lives.

Conviction rates only ever go that high because the DA will decline to prosecute any case that they have the potential of losing. The only reason I mention that is because this case is the first of its kind and has basically no precedent behind it, which means it's extremely risky, and thus totally outside of the types of cases Oakland county would prosecute. Thanks for the video . The problem with some of these types of videos though , is the sound quality is extremely poor for it being part of the government cameras . The resolution could stand for a modern upgrade across the board As well . [edit: I would suggest individually 'Micing' up 'key areas'(seats,etc) , with state of the art technology , that can help form comprehensive Audio recordings that can be Combined(accurately/honestly) with Relevant Video footage][You could have all the Audio recordings run/feed into one 'group-file' for easy organization/separation of Relevance][Better yet though , would be adding high quality Video+Audio Cameras into key-areas in a similar fashion]

She deserves locked up! She failed her child and caused so much pain for many others. If she was a good mother and loved her son, she would've got him help asap. If she loved him, it would've hurt her to see her son struggle like he did. This is absolutely her fault she willingly ignored huge red flags. This could've been prevented!
@courtneyratliff36848 ай бұрын
You literally make me sick my stomach as you comment these you seriously should think first... As their is a lot these mothers suffering... And some are the one with kids that don't struggle with hurting someone.they so stuck in who to reach to or scared to be shut down cause they understand.

@courtneyratliff3684 No excuse for her neglect. And I do know. I have a son with depression and anxiety. My top priority was to get him help. She failed her child, period! I have depression myself and struggles, but that does not mean I stop being a parent. Take your blinders off.
@Amandabrown838 ай бұрын
@courtneyratliff3684 You should practice what you preach. Also, tell that to the parents that lost their children. This mother ignored her sons pleas for help and made fun of him. Most times, I do not think parents should be blamed, but in this case, enough has been proven she knew and ignored it.

It seems like she really didn't know he was about to snap.
@briang25668 ай бұрын
I don’t think they thought it was a possibility he would snap…but there were several signs, he text her saying he was seeing demons and that they messed the kitchen up. There were text messages between the parents discussing his depression etc. and they still bought him a handgun and the mother posted about ‘his’ new gun on Facebook. If my child drew drawings and messages like that…at home or school, I would have taken him out of school right then and gotten rid of the weapons in the house that very day.

I think it’s pretty clear she didn’t pay much attention to her kid if she’s saying he “never exerted any kind of mental issues.” I guess the question is whether that rises to the level of a crime though. I still need to see a bit more to be convinced she needs more punishment than she’s already received. I don’t think she’s a danger to society as long as she doesn’t have any more kids and I don’t see that happening at this point
