Cynthia casted as Aretha is a producer trying to cash in on the “Perceived” distaste these 2 singers have for one another. In reality, they have nothing but love for each other. I get it tho, They used Jen to get the show up and running fully knowing that because Jhud was Top Billed she cannot be reviewed as Supporting but also knowing that Shug is a Supporting role. The producers knew what they were doing. They were using her and she called it out once the Tony Noms came out. One thing not to be mistaken in all of that THE Cast love each other. It’s producers who wanna bring up this fake drama.

T S Jennifer and Cynthia were top billed. For Tony nominations, Lead must be Top billed or “Introduced” billed to be considered for Lead. To be considered for Supporting you must be billed second ala the “and” billing. Producers understood this and understood that Jhud would never get nominated because the role wasn’t Lead and her billing wasn’t supporting they just needed her to sell the show but didn’t wanna fire Cynthia to get there. They made the right call but it made Jennifer feel slighted because she wasn’t there for her talent she was there for name recognition. The producers made the right call though for their show. It just wasn’t the best moment for Jen. However, the positive was it showed the world Jennifer can play Preety and not just the loud fat girl or the insecure girl. She can be the “Diana Ross” type.
