I'll tell you a secret. Tommy Mottola became head of the label due to Mariah's debut. He actually had no education or experience for that job. But, he made a deal. The label was going under. He was going to find a superstar and make her put out product at a rapid fire pace to ensure millions always entered the label. That's where Carey comes in and he married her. When she left the label, he lost his company's rock. He needed a new one. He tried to 're-create' her by using her own stuff. It didn't work. He put money behind Lopez like a Carey or Jackson, but Lopez never brought home their numbers. He was fired 2 years after Carey left due to extreme money loss. He opened up his own label. It's been 17 years. Not a single hit act came out.

I'm not seeing/hearing the fraud here. Artists doing their own background vocals only really started happening in, like, the 80s. But before then, session singers were often used on choruses. In fact, artists doing their own background saved alot of money for the label, but actually put alot of singers who weren't superstars out of work. Artists are seldom held vocally accountable for their choruses, and will hire background vocalists for most, if not all, live performances- and where not, it's not hidden to the audience that the chorus and backgrounds are pre-recorded. So I'm not understanding what JLo did that was so unusual and unheard of. Even with these stunts, Jlo still has one of the most distinct voices in music. We all know what she sounds like, and whether or not it pleases others is irrelevant to her fans, who love her sound. No real news here.

Ok, I'm not a JLo fan beyond the Selena movie, but some of this video is just hating. Jennifer isn't a good singer, but she DID sing in every single one of those songs. Ashanti, Christina, and everyone else got paid for their vocals. It isn't illegal to use background vocals. You can very clearly hear JLo singing the verses even if she isn't on the hook. Jennifer Lopez is for sure an industry plant and did a ton of shady shit with other artist's vocals. But that being said, that woman can sing. She couldn't always, but over the past, I'd say 10 or so years, you can tell she took some real vocal lessons and upped her game. You should React to the video, "Jlo Can't Sing" just to get a good look at both the good and bad of her music career.

But I can't say that about her New Years Eve vocals. Very hit and miss, maybe it depends on the song she is attempting.

Tommy wanted to control Mariah's every move and breath until his trusted therapist told him to let her go, let her be free, and trust her. And he did for several months. Those months are when she was making the Fantasy album and parts of the Butterfly album. Every type of song Motorola wouldn't let her make, she made, and they were hits as she said they'd be. So he got BEYOND pissed that not only did he no longer have control over her but her music instincts were spot on as far as collabing with ODB on the Fantasy remix, doing The Roof ft. Mobb Deep, etc., so he indeed set out to sabotage her career. He basically took an amazing dancer and actress who's gorgeous and has charisma (aka JLo, the bish can't sing to save her own life but she's one helluva dancer and actress, luckily her daughter can sing her ass off and she gets it from HER FATHER lol) to market her to look like Mariah. They're both from NYC but different Borroughs so different attitudes. He was making it seem like Mariah was now out of touch and too bougie for the streets hence JLo. Had her, as you saw in this video, take songs and vocals from other artists and masked them as her own, made her wear her hair golden and straight when Mariah did, and vintage curly (along with vintage style makeup and clothing style) when Mariah did as well. He literally fabricated a music career for Jennifer Lopez to piss off Mariah because he could no longer have her.
