For this attorney to accuse her like this is completely inappropriate. The fair officials should be questioned. The State Police run security inside the fairgrounds. Ask them. Steve

I’m a pro touring musician. When an artist is contracted for a performance at a music festival,or in this case, a state fair, the artist has no input on the staging, rigging or how it’s constructed. The venue and promoter is solely responsible for that. The artist only tells the promoter the size of stage they require and things like backstage facilities. An artist is a actually a vendor. No different contractually than the guy selling funnel cakes.
@bigjimbob3737 Жыл бұрын
I am late weighing in, but I have to agree with this lady (I am not a fan). The State Fair Commission maintains a massive command structure and safety plan, including professional meteorologists. A musician's job is just as she said: to perform at the venue where they are invited. This is state property and they have little control over those in attendance, nor could they possibly monitor weather while trying to perform.
@mr.balloffur3 жыл бұрын
The only one who is at fault is who allowed that fair to stay open and not get those people the safety during what looked like a horrendous storm. They had enough warning that it was coming.

DXGypsy I Totally agree it is ridiculous when it comes to these dum ass Lawyers trying to blame Sugarland when its not their fault. They should be focusing on questioning Sugarlands management team and the venue and whoever was contracted to put the stage together they should be the ones held accountable plus Sugarlands management should also be accountable because the fair was planning on cancelling the concert because of the weather but Sugarlands management kept pushing the fair organizers by insisting and presureing them to move forward with the concert their the ones that should be held accountable.

Trying to blame musicians for a stage collapse is like blaming the office companies inside the twin towers for the planes hitting them. Not their job, not their field, not their concern. The State Fair was warned repeatedly of high wind gusts but didn’t cancel because then they’d have to issue ticket refunds.

The only thing the group should be responsible for is stage security. She was cold and quite unlikeable, but she's right. That storm went from 0-60 in about 5 seconds. Was it foreseeable? Yes. I live 50 miles NW of Indy and severe thunderstorm warnings had been broadcast across the western half of the state for the previous 30 minutes; it's unusual though not rare to have a storm like this in our part of the state and gusting winds, lightning and heavy rain were expected. The storm was moving NE at 50mph and the tv screen was full of red.

Most of that goes towards tour expenses, production costs, and performers/crew pay. While they might get a $468,000 check, They might only have $20,000 after all costs and salary's are paid. Normally, Tours are multimillion costs and expenses that need to paid before you even make a profit also.

I'm a photographer.. and I shot a Kiss concert several years ago. My client needed images ASAP. I shot hundreds of images and then I was put into a room to process and transmit to my client. Also in that room was the guy who's job it was to figure out how big of a check that that Kiss was going to get that night. He was sitting right next to me running all the numbers. When he was done, he wrote the check and showed it to me. It was an eye-popping number. While it seemed like a lot, Kiss brought with them at least a dozen tractor trailers full of gear and a huge crew to unload the trucks, build the set, run the show, and then pack it all up again and drive to the next town to do it again. There is an enormous number of man-hours required to run these shows. And nobody dependable works for free.
