November 2023 and this song still cuts like a knife through my heart. The tears in her eyes. The cry in her voice. Even the expression on Kristian Bush’s face as he plays the guitar. He knows the hurt she’s been through. This song will remain timeless in my book!

Wife of 19 yrs walked out on me and our 5 kids last July. We spent months homeless or in a shelter. After countless 60 hr work weeks I made us a home again. Now after all our struggle and after she's had her fun, she wants back in. It hurts, but after careful consideration I have advised her to stay.....stay gone, stay away. Sad but kind of happy at the same time. God, this song reminds so much of all the times I begged her to love me. In the end it was for the best. Great song

I was married for close to 30 years when my husband left me for a woman at work. It tore me up and almost broke me. The absolute darkest time of my life. Sometimes I was so broken I felt like I couldn’t breath. It’s been 3 years since that day and while I almost can’t stand to remember the feeling of the darkness, I am proud that I made it through a time where I almost gave up. Some people comment that maybe we will be friends in the future when the pain passes. I always reply, absolutely not. I have no desire to relive the absolute betrayal from a man who disposed of me like common trash. No thanks! I spent so many years feeling worthless and alone. I don’t need to live that way ever again.

After 15 years of marriage, I was that man. I ripped two families apart for selfishness. It doesn’t matter what is going on in a relationship, it’s never right to cheat. You never “owe to yourself” to cheat. My wife divorced me. I deserve every bit of hell I got from her for the hell I put her through. Through Gods forgiveness and a lot of work, my wife and I were remarried. That was 8 years ago. She has shown me grace and forgiveness that I don’t deserve. I will never take her for granted again.

@@tzuro70 that is exactly why I asked for your point to your comment. I don’t wish her any ill will, but couldn’t care less to know how she is, or what she’s up to. And yes, really, side “chick” is a very common term used to describe a woman engaging in affairs with someone else’s partner. If you’re implying that is a derogatory term, it is. And a fitting one for a person willfully cheating.

@sarge12314 жыл бұрын
Acording to what I read, this was the first Sugarland song written entirely by Nettles, and she did not think it was all that good, but the other member of Sugarland, Kristian Bush, finally convinced her to let him read the lyrics, and he was blown away. He also stated he feels like a big brother to her...he is a married man. He described how through multiple attempts Nettles kept breaking down crying. It was making him very angry, and he said it was like watching a close friend being tortured, and by Noon he was exhausted emotionally, and just said they would have to peice together the clips, he could not bear to watch this anymore. Even though the end result required dubbing over the parts she was breaking down in, that is what makes this video so powerful. It is almost like she layed bare every emotionally painful thing that had ever happened to her in this video. You can't possibly fake that, or even reproduce it. Sugarland has done this song countless times since, live. In my opinion, none of the subsequent performances carry the raw emotion of this video. I can also easily see why Kristian Bush found it so hard to watch it, but it made for a truly remarkable video that is hard to ever match...the viewers could truly feel the pain. It was real, it was raw, and it was amazing.

I use to play this song over and over again when it came out. I was the wife, but felt like the other woman. My husband spent all his time and affection on other women. This song gave me the strength to say enough. And I left my husband. It was the hardest decision I ever made. He was the love of my life, my whole heart. My husband never thought I would ever leave him. He changed his life completely, and won me back. Our life our love our marriage was happy, unfortunately that was only for a short time. 5 years later he died in my arms at the age of 51. My heart forever broken He was and will always be my 1 true love. Even with all the pain he caused me. I truly loved him, and he did change 100 percent.

My husband and I have now been separated 6 years and divorced 3 yrs. He also was ( at least I thought) was the love of my life. And the 24 and a half years I never saw him doing no wrong and blamed it all on myself. But now i know things I didn't but my heart aches for him still. We were 15 years old and I was 38 when we separated. He's moved on to someone else the one I think was kinda in picture. But my heart feels like it will always be broken. I trust in God and I have to much love to give someone that deserves it as much as me. It's just in his timing and a broken 💔 will be healed. So happy you and your husband reconciled and so sorry for your loss.

This song is to the only man that I ever known and loved for 26 years. After, rekindled and giving him everything he still left and ran from me. He went and had his fun getting high all the time. He kept running after I begged him to just loved me but it wasn’t enough. I went homeless to be with him and I guess I wasn’t enough for him to stayed. I got to the point where his shit got old, and I finally called it quit! I’m so done with his bs to where I just hate him. So i rather set him freed, so I can be free…

It wasn't based on her own experience. The song was inspired by Reba McEntire’s “Whoever’s in New England,” which was written from the perspective of a wife whose husband is cheating on her. Nettles knew countless songs written from that viewpoint but none from the other two people involved. She says most people don’t realize that even the person who is doing the cheating gets hurt as well.

To all you happily married people, thank God you are, because the worst feeling next to loosing a child is to loose the love of your life because she wanted the greener grass on the side of the fence. Then they realize it’s not and comes home like nothing happened. It will tear at your soul and slowly drain everything good about you until you are empty inside. The trauma to your head and heart is like what a soldier gets on the battle field, you will never be the same again. I pray to all the people in love please don’t ever cheat on your partner, leave them first it won’t hurt as bad as cheating. Amen from an empty soul

I disagree! If I have one critique of Jennifer it's that she's just too darn "happy" for my tastes. She seems like one of those naturally happy and upbeat people that comes from a good family. She certainly has the looks. Then you add that voice and what has she ever had to be down about? Through no fault of her own, Jennifer probably lacks enough experience in the more painful aspects of life. As far as this song is concerned, I doubt any guy had been stupid enough to pick another woman over Jennifer. I don't care if the other woman was a Victoria secret model, Jennifer is one in 10, 000,000. Nah, if she was drawing on past painful experiences for this song, she was more likely remembering a favorite dog that passed away.
