Maybe it's me but the silk press is like a good press and curl from back in the day. We always used curling wax. It made the press and the curl last. Maybe I'm just old. This stylist did a great job and the hair is very nice when done.

You are right. I think that it is the new generation that is making a bigger deal of it when it is just a 'Plain Press and Curl'.

I hear you...I still use a pressing comb, oils and wax.

The difference between what she is doing and back-in-the-day press and curl is that when you use heavy products like Wax and oils it weighs the hair down so the hair does not have the flow like this girl's hair. The only thing that I would have done additional is wrapping the hair after you curl it to give the hair more freeflowing movement from the root.

@@YenChosen I guess there were not a lot of black stylist pressing without oil back in the day but I was just lucky to get the ones that did. Although I don't recall being wrapped up in Saran Wrap after the press until about 10 years ago. That was first time anyone did that and honestly my hair came out the same as it would without the wrap. I can call it silk press or old school press but as long as it is a lasting press. A good press for me will about two weeks.

Hiya thanks for your comment,,, it’s not the same, with Dominican blowout they blowdry the hair until it’s straight and don’t always use a flat iron/curling tongs to finish.

I also visit Dominicans for a blow out, if they use rollers to dry your hair some of the way that is good then after they blow dry you just ask them to curl your hair and when they are done curling it spray it with hair Sheen, then wrap the hair and then comb it back out it will all have the same effect.

She has some damaged ends that didn't revert back like some of the rest of her hair. So I would say silk presses does cause some damage....but, who cares. We can keep our hair perfect forever!!! It fine to play with heat and color. If it gets damaged just cut it. No big deal. Hair is meant to be fun, not this thing to preserve in a pristine state. So have fun ladies 🤗❤

Silk press is not bad if you know how to do it. I would recommend this person to take a break from silk press and give her edges some rest and therapy.

I would say her front a rest bc she’s starting to show straight pieces. But she may not mind it. I definitely try to stretch out pressing my hair for as long as my scalp will let me to avoid the heat damage.

Very nice video, 1 - Hair consultation Hair scalp routine and why 2 - shampoo deep condition and cleanse ( view the condition of the scalp ) 3 - light leaving water based conditioninb spray / heat protection 4 - blow dry the hair while wet/damp some can use a roller set 5 - press and finish flat iron to the highest and pass through the hair. Once silicone hair serum Traditional hot comb and a wax color bump the hair sheen spray Wrap the hair for the next day.

I believe heat pressing uses a higher heat setting than flat ironing which makes a difference with the shiny silky look achieved with the hotter setting/heat pressing

Hey Bella, Questions.. When you say a silk press is not for everyone, do you mean for those who has damaged and fine hair or another reason? I'm tender headed and this is my third and "Final" time being natural, and really thinking about going back to the relaxer bc it made my hair grow "Tremendously" , and I get to do many styles which I can't do with a natural. I did my own trims and relaxers ( I went to cosmetology school back in the 80's) myself bc I know my hair and relaxers for me is a convenience. Will a silk press last longer than a relaxer? Suggestions?

Silk Press(in the US) started out being all that you said, HOWEVER…..PLUS(and most importantly) An “oil-based activator” that interacts with the #heat, causing a semi long-term stretched look. But because everyone who may post a hair tutorial to YT isn’t always a “Licensed Professional” terms have been used interchangeably when they are not altogether the same?!🤷🏾‍♀️ Most of what’s on YT being called a “Silk Press” really is no more than just a regular-degular “Hot Press!”
