Sydnie doesn't sing a song - she becomes the song and the song becomes her. They become one unit. That's why her performances feel so personal.

Hi Jen, thank you for showing us Sydnie's quality of training to produce this new cover which is so so good, too: your pauses are so interesting, they're worth it. This is almost the favourite of Sydnie's songs: a majestic step to find her way to the final, too, so rivhly deserved, but the other two songs each have their own, superb qualities too. They'll all be on her first album, indeed, too.

Her belt just seems effortless. I am a middling singer and have never had any training, and I have no idea what it feels like to properly "belt" anything. But she seems to hit impossible notes with impossible projection and not lose a step. At the risk of making what some might think to be an inappropriate comparison, if you've ever watched a thoroughbred horse running, it's like you can just see that it's what they are supposed to do. It's their reason - the "why" that they exist. Singing like this seems to be what Sydnie was made to do, and it is beautiful to watch (and hear).

@@GaryDouglas-lj5bz Really? Shirley is definitely one of my alltime fave singers but to me ..prior to this cover by Sydnie...this was Frank's song all the way
@GaryDouglas-lj5bz5 ай бұрын
@@reddragonready Different strokes for different folks. I was essentially comparing Sydnie's version to other female vocalists, not to Frank or other male singers. I love most versions of this song, male or female-----with the clear exception of Miley Cyrus' whose performance of it is a detestable desecration.
@reddragonready5 ай бұрын
@@GaryDouglas-lj5bz No offence intended..tastes differ indeed. Just saying..mine does from yours. As for male v female. I think this song was made famous mostly by Frank and to me that seems he set the standard all other covers will be compared to as to how well they sing the song and relay it's message.I dare say when Shirley sang it Frank's rendition is what she was most "up against". I feel it's fine to compare Sydnie to Frank. But again, I agree, tastes differ. 🙂 I had no idea Miley covered this song as well. As a bit of a fan of her..I will have to look for that one. Edit: I enjoyed Miley's tribute to Bill Murray but that is what it is..a tongue in cheek tribute. Not a serious cover of the song. THIS I would say is not one which should be compared to serious attempts. "detestable desecration" are some pretty strong words..words I prefer to save for Beyonce's treatment of Dolly's Jolene. ps just heard Celine's cover of My Way...that one, to me, is also, right up there with the very best.
