Ya gotta break down Chaka into two parts. One part with the band Rufus and the other her solo career. We need to be very careful when mentioning the songs she sang while with Rufus as to not discredit any of those former band members. 😉 . And…. Last I checked, Rufus is still active as a band so…. they I’m strongly guessing, have also copyrights to the old Rufus songs of the 70s even without Chaka

Her range and depth continue to increase. I am interested in anything she does. As you've mentioned her talent to sing jazz is phenomenal. Her answering any call is what amazes me. I first noticed her participation in the "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" documentary. She performed "What's Goin' On" with The Funk Brothers, the Motown studio band. Then Chaka Khan performed "Help Me" at Joni 75: A Birthday Celebration. And finally, at Aretha Franklin's funeral Chaka Khan sang "I'm Goin' Up Yonder". And she told Jennifer Hudson that she didn't sing Gospel. Chaka Khan got the whole church; Detroit's Greater Grace Temple, to stand up!

when Chaka says "this is the way you get your boots on the ground"..she means to say, this is one of the platforms that Jennifer can use to ESTABLISH HERSELF. And Chaka is right...the game of "singing and performing" has changed so much. And unless you're someone like Chaka or Patti LaBelle or Anita Baker, etc..its not easy to find a concert promoter who is going to promote some huge tour for you, when you haven't sold records like these women have..or been in the game as long as they have. And if your name isnt Celine Dion or Mary J. Blige or Janet Jackson or Mariah Carey..its double-hard. Concert promoters dont care nuthin' about a damn Oscar, ok?...so Chaka understands, the way to REALLY establish yourself when you are a Jennifer Hudson, IS TO BE SEEN ON A TELEVISED FORMAT!..build you a foundation of visibility Jennifer, and go the way of Tyra Banks, who is a media mogul now.

Chaka may be a legend but she needs to get her facts straight. Chaka has been around since the early seventies and claiming to be 22 years old in 1985?? The year the Color Purple came out. This is why I have a hard time listening to her stories. She always seems high and her stories are riddled with inaccuracies. She is clearly in her 70s or close to it. She was in her 20s when she was with Rufus in the 70s. Perhaps she is suffering from memory loss from all the drugs.
@SmartRobot-wc2fb2 жыл бұрын
@@maryboyd3298 You are stupid and I can tell you why! "The Color Purple" was a project Steven Spielberg had much prior than 1985, when it was released. "Pretty Woman", the 1990 movie, was 1st talked about around 1985, because Steve Winwood's "Higher Love" hit from 1986 was supposed to feature on it. Sometimes, some projects are in the shelve up until it is possible to come true. Steven Spielberg was already a high profile director in the 70's, specially during his movie "Shark". Around that same time Chaka and Rufus (her band) were ridding high in the charts with their albums. Quincy Jones, former Michael Jackson producer was a friend of Steven Spielberg and also knew Rufus & Chaka (he actually produced their "Masterjam" album in 1978). So, it is possible that Steven approached Chaka by that same time. We never know. Afterwards, Tina Turner was also approach up until that part ended up in Whoopi Goldberg's lap. So, let's cut the "Chaka's high' bullshit here, ok?

Mama Z greeting family. I am the same age as Chaka and been back stage at many of her concerts. As a aTv entertainment producer. She is a legend who true story needs to be told in a tv movie and book. But my dilemma is that these talk shows talk to people who are legendary in a time of the old where the new have no respect for their talent if talking on these shows bring the legendary to life it good. But these talk shows become boring they talk to much on nothing important like Chaka said base on women today. Show more of their God gift and less boring talk. We talk to much on these shows about nothing related to my grand girls. the pass is good for the old. But this generation live in in false lies and fake control as Konye speak. Is it more propaganda being promoted on these shows or have anyone person check to see who has the insurance policy on these performer s because to many of my children are dying and no one sees it speak on truth but feed off the wealth off the backs of these young people talk about the drugs abuse in the industry how young performers are dying these faint truth tell some truth it not all cherry roses as My son Konye West spoke Prince. Michael Jackson spoke the truth. Where are they dead. By what means drugs. Why they dead the two greatest artist of all times. I love Jennifer as a performer a music producer of new talent not this talk show crop. Boring I grow up in Detroit MotownUSA Grand River and 9 miles singing. Let me real. "looking outside yourself for the gold, when you are the gold." that gave me chills, in the good, empowering, confirmative way. bless this goddess, eternally. she is a teacher now, listen to that song while reading those lyrics, powerful wisdom.
