The best video I have seen for painting cabinets with a brush and roller. A few things I would have done differently. First, thoroughly clean the cabinet doors first. Sanding first will force grease and dirt into the surface which hurts adhesion. After sanding, use a deglosser to get in the areas that sanding has missed. The last would be getting the corners first with a brush and then following quickly with the roller. I didn't understand why you didn't do that with everything else being so well done. Makes for a more consistent and smooth surface. Still a great job. Far better than I have seen on the vast majority of videos on this topic.

i painted out kitchen cabinets white using this tutorial and i have to add: 1) wear a mask when painting with the primer, 2) PRIME the outside of the cabinet doors and drawers - already the paint is chipping away (i used Behr's version of satin instead of Benjamin Moore, but I'm pretty sure the same thing would happen 3) make sure you really clean your cabinets before starting and maybe use a de-greasing agent if there's grease 4) drill holes for knobs or handles before you paint

+Heather Hatch i really wish i had taken the time to go and find that paint! They didn't have it at Home Depot and the lady in the paint department there told me the Behr I bought would be fine. Everyone - go get the Benjamin Moore paint! Our cabinets look fine, but there are places where the paint has chipped away when we pulled away painter's tape and dinged an area when putting up the doors. but it'll do for a few years until we re-do everything!
@nidhidshah8 жыл бұрын
+Jenna Carrier regarding pulling away your painter's tape, I've noticed (well I wasn't painting the cabinets but this experience was rather with the iron railing on my porch) that if we pull of the painter's tape when the paint is still a bit wet, it doesn't chip off (not immediately but before it is completely dry)

Hi Jenna, thanks for your thoughts! Yes, I agree that Benjamin Moore Advance would have given you a different result. Also, our cabinets already had holes drilled. Thank you for watching!

good job on your cabinets!! i have chestnut colored cabinets and i want to paint my cabinets white as well. do i clean it then sand it? or can i just go ahead and paint on it? i noticed your cabinets were already unfinished when you started.. what do you recommend me doing? i would really appreciate your help!! thanks in advance!! :)

i had originally painted my cabinets poler bear white and they looked a lot better than they were but then decided to put an antique white glaze on them to give them more depth which i am happier with but staying with white cabinets really depends on wht color the floor is and counter tops.

Did you use a primer on the cabinet doors before you put the BM Advance satin paint on? Also, what color white did you use? Thanks!! Did you take your backsplash down yourself? I would love to take mine down before we painte cabinets but afraid it will be really hard?
@JenniferStagg10 жыл бұрын
Hi there! No primer-- just the paint. The paint is so high quality, no primer is needed. Just a light sanding and a clean surface. The color is simply the paint without any color added-- easy! We did take the backsplash down ourselves. You can watch a tutorial here: How To Remove A Tile Backsplash | withHEART Thanks for watching!

in oder for it to last and get good adhesion to the old varnish ,you have to put an oil primer on it, or it will chip easy and will start to flake off

I washed my kitchen cabinets to paint them with a cream color paint over medium color oak. The paint had the primer in it. I sanded, used a tack cloth and cheese cloth to prepare them for the paint. But the paint has chipped off around the handles. Anything to prevent or live with it.

Brush marks and roller marks on kitchen cabinets will lower the value of a kitchen. They will be less smooth than the original finish and not clean as easy as the original smooth finish. A smooth finish is important for long term cleanability. Claiming that this is the right way in your title is hackydoo and misleading. They do not come from the factory that way. Why not spray them if your claiming to do it the right way. Sure your cabinets will look good at first but cleaning them will be a tedious task when it's time to do so.

Why not use a brush for the whole door? Rollers are for lazy people.
@JenniferStagg10 жыл бұрын
Hi there! A roller avoids brush strokes and it's faster. Call me lazy, but there were a lot of doors to paint and anything I could do to speed up the process was a great idea!

There is no "right way" to paint kitchen cabinets that enhances the appearance of the cabinets in the long run, paint is an inappropriate finish for cabinets.
