One of the best color grading tutorials I have seen. I would enjoy a review of when Luts or Plug-ins make sense for this task. Great job as always.

Again, a very articulate and informative video presentation! One problem I have is that sometimes I just cannot bring up the Low end of The Luma. I look at the graphs and some Component of the video signal remains low.

A video using color masks might be interesting. Perhaps you only want to adjust skin tones without affecting other objects and HSL vs 3D color masks for control. BTW one of my issues with the vectorscope is it's either 100% or 133% and sometimes I'd like to expand it further for more detailed control. I know some temporarily boost saturation as an alternative but I wonder what's the best way when even 133% doesn't show enough detail.

excellent tutorial thank you! question….not a good idea to adjust white balance as first step?
@JennJagerPro7 ай бұрын
You can if your shot needs it. This video is based off a presentation I gave at NAB where I talked about WB, but this video was so dang long I couldn't cover everything I did in that session!

@@JennJagerPro what step is white balance, though? The very first?
@JennJagerPro7 ай бұрын
Correct your exposures first, then white balance
@deborahgallegos53347 ай бұрын
@@JennJagerPro thank you!! I’ve always wondered because in FCP white balance shows up first in the “order of operations.” In the video corrections pane.

I’m assuming you live in South Florida. I’m basing that on some of your video that I have seen in your example clips in your various tutorials. I’m looking for work, kind of learning as I go. I’m not sure what type of business you own/run, but I have some experience in your line of work. May I have your contact information?

Not a single Hollywood movie- not one - that uses FCP for color correction! Doesn't that tell you something?! And 99% of them use Da Vinci Resolve. Does that tell you something? Maybe you're barking up the wrong tree!
@JennJagerPro7 ай бұрын
What I would call "barking up the wrong tree" is spending my time watching and commenting on videos for apps I don't use, and criticizing the people who do use them. Move along, Allen!

First, the world is bigger than Hollywood, and this tutorial is not for Hollywood pro colourists I guess. Second, Hollywood movies are graded by pro colourists. And pro colourists use DVR as this is one of the best colour grading tools out there, but not the best, just the most popular. And pro colourists in Hollywood use other tools too, more sophisticated than DVR. But pro colourists are not editors. If you use fcp for editing - well, actually the best editing tool now, I guess, you don't need to switch to DVR to colouring. FCP has nice tools to grade and if your footage is more or less well balanced and exposed you can make a beautiful grading with it without paying extra money for other software. Most people using both DVR (for free), FCP and other software don't understand colour editing neither tools they try to use. And this is the basis. If you understand the colour science and tools you can be very successful with colour grading with both platforms. I guess not many people are aware that FCP colour management is much more safe than of DVR. When grading with DVR you need to understand much more about colour management than when working with FCP, to avoid painful mistakes. Short - FCP is much more friendly in grading and if you EDIT with FCP you can also grade with it successfully without switching to DVR. And again, this tutorial is not for pro colourists. It is very basic staff about colour tools in fcp. And thanks for that. I am sure it is helpful for many people.
