I actually loved the scene with Jamie and Claire and her need to go to the bathroom. That kind of intimacy is something that a long time couple understands. I've been with my hub 36 years. He saw me through two knee replacement surgeries over the past ten years. I could relate. It touched me.

Faith - I think you are right about them wanting to end on a cliffhanger that gets books readers and movie watchers both reeling. I agree the song being evidence is silly because she is a baby when Claire sings it. The link I wonder about is in novella The Space Between - Master Raymond says to the Comte, something like "I am here for the daughter."

Unfortunately, there was a FB page that posted the whole final scene on FB and I hadn't seen the show yet. (My local hockey team plays on Fridays, so I don't get to watch the show until Saturday or Sunday.) I wasn't very happy about seeing it before getting to watching the show. And at first, I thought Claire was thinking Fanny was Faith and I was thinking but she isn't old enough. Then I realized what the circumstances were. I also immediately thought Faith would not have remembered Claire singing to her. I'm amazed at the things that stick with some folks, that goes right over my head while reading the books. The person that commented that Master Raymond said, "I'm here for the daughter" in one of the novellas. I totally missed that. Although I've always thought there was unfinished business with Master Raymond.

Claire did surgery on Henry, she did a re-section of his intestines. And Ben supposedly died of camp fever. I only remember this because I re-listened to MOBY recently. I really wish they'd had a funeral for Jane in the show 😥 Looking forward to hearing Kristin read Outlander.

Ah, Jenn, they're called "comments" not "con-ments". 🤣Couldn't resist!! So sorry!! I'll start with my Fave Moments: LJ telling William "it wasn't in vain, she saved her sister", William responds with "you think you know me don't you?", LJ says "yes, I do", and William can't help a tiny smile. He seems to realise in that moment that LJ is still and will always be his papa. The moment that Roger sees Brianna and calls out her name is so overwhelmingly joyful! Amazing! I was blubbering! Claire calling LJ back over to the side of the bed to thank him (and Jamie's eyes soften for a hint of a moment). Then the other stuff: I agree 1000% percent, if S7 was the end, it would have been Bree & Rog back at the Ridge! Minor detail... I found it strange that Jamie was talking to Claire about blood transfusions the future, while Rachel and Denzel are hovering in the background! Most of Brianna's lines in the scene with Brian didn't flow naturally (writing or acting, I'm not sure), they just seemed like lines. "Mind f***" is a very a propos way of describing this whole Faith thing!! I still can't wrap my head around it. My gut says it's NOT what they are trying to get us to believe (that Claire & Jamie's Faith is Jane and Fanny's mother). I really hope not, because I don't want to believe that Mother Hildegard and/or Master Raymond would have deceived Claire like that. Nor, that William would have slept with a niece. I have heard a couple of theories that I think could be. Yours one of them... could be another baby being cared for at the hospital, an orphan maybe or a prostitute's baby. Mother Hildegard has a musical ear, she would have heard the song and may have remembered it well enough. She could have sung it to them.

I dont know what to make of Faith's story theory. But its not like the show will just bring up something and not clear it up in someway, considering its strange that Fanny knows a song from the 1900s. I kind of like this intrigue though, because I remember thinking in the books, what was the significance of Jane and Fanny? I think the show did this a couple of times already this season, where they put something as fact, what the book just suggested. The Swiftest of Lizards was one of them.

Yes, I had seen her comments! It feels good to see my own thoughts confirmed. I understand how that small tease, that was a fleeting thought from the books, would be a compelling thing to pull into the show. I still believe that when we see the other side of this revelation, we will get back to sense. Jamie will talk her down from it, and Claire may still ask Ian, or maybe even LJG? to do some digging, which will come up empty. (In the books Ian does the digging, but in the show LJG could be the one since he has more power and connections).

I loved your review and thank you for a great season of recaps. I always look forward to hearing your reviews. I’m still in disbelief that they decided to end with this twist instead of the as expected “hello the house.” I noticed that Roger said the line to Brian Fraser last week when they went back to LB and I thought it would be odd to have it said 2X so close together but I still thought that what how the season would end. I think they could have got there - they gutted so much story already but I think they wanted to build in Easter eggs for BOMB. I hope they really make it work and in hindsight it all flowed well. The only theory I’ve heard so far that I personally feel ok with is that Jane and Fanny’s mom Faith is either a time traveler or a child of a time traveler. Maybe Claire’s mom Julia’s daughter. Idk🤯 Overall, I thought they did a very good job this season showing so many scenes with direct dialogue from the books. Overall, I thought the acting was great and the production was mostly beautiful. I love this show and I adore the books. They said s8 is coming soon, I hope that means late this yr! Thx again!!!

I really miss Fergus and Marsali, that story line is so rich. When was Claire born? Was she old enough to remember a song from hearing it, or from someone singing it to her? Perhaps she remembers her own mother singing it? Could Master Raymond have rescued a twin because he knew that the child would have Fanny, who needed to live to be the ancestor of someone important? Kind of like when Claire felt she had to save Jack Randall so Frank could exist? It gets so kooky to imagine time travel...

Well, disappointment is always a possibility. But I truly don't see them going that far away from being reasonable. They may not do exactly what Diana will (I also doubt she will tell them every little thing, even if they asked), but even the craziest they've ever gone off track... As a book reader the Faith stuff came out of nowhere. It made for a good cliffhanger but i'm pretty sure they'll shut it down in the next season. You know i cried more about Rollo than about Jane. Maybe because we got a hint in the start of the episode with the trigger warning. With Rollo they really milked it right? Getting those close up shots of Rollo with his eyes open. And then Ian sobbing... I also liked the Claire and Denny moment when she told him how well he did. And i loved how Jamie took care of Claire. We see more of Claire taking care of him usually. I read something from Diana where she said that she had toyed with the idea of a graphic novel about what if Master Raymond had saved Faith, but she didn’t write it. She told Matt Roberts about it and he liked it & decided to “run with it”. As for how she knows the song from 1900’s, Master Raymond is definitely a time traveler & he could have taken faith to the future when she was small. Do you think they will have the storyline about Cunningham trying to take down Jamie? And his mother, Elspeth? That is a huge thing in book 9.

Interesting is that Diana has thrown a lot of shade over the last episodes ( to my surprise ). I know she's protective of her material but the show always was an adaptation which took their own liberties ( for better or worse...) Anyway, her comment can go two directions : “They actually did get the (general) idea from me, though. When chatting with [showrunner] Matt [Roberts] about All Things plot wise, I mentioned that if I had written a second graphic novel (I didn't, for assorted reasons), I would have shown what actually happened after Faith's presumed death at the Hopital des Anges, and how/why Master Raymond resuscitated and nurtured the baby secretly, but wasn't able to come back with her before Claire and Jamie left France. So, they liked that idea and ran with it.” It's possible they resolve it in a way that Faith really died, or they take the liberty to go a completely different road than Diana does. We know already that she said her ending will be more complicated and the show's more straightforward. Fans are already all over the place with their opinions books vs. show. I think once both ends will appear, fans will take sides and the debates will live forever :)

Ok, this is no order, but I want to get all my reactions in. I’m a book reader who hasn’t read the books in a long while, so I simply don’t recall MANY details. Argh. So before I forget, I LOVED in the book that Jamie explained to William about his SISTER’s method of opening a locked window! And then William realizes BRIANNA is his sister. I’m sooo glad that was on the show! Secondly, in the books, much of this takes place in Savannah, Georgia…but I no longer remember WHY all the characters reside THERE (and EVERYONE lives there, from Lord John and his brother, Hal, Percy, Amaranth us, Jamie, Claire, Fergus and family, Ian and Rachel, Brianna and family, and even Jane and Fanny etc.), . I think the show makes more sense for this all to be in NJ. I also liked that the Rollo death scene was like the book. I admit I enjoyed the addition of Master Raymond and the new plot direction about Faith and her girls. It was only SLIGHTLY implied in the book. I think there are explanations. For starters, the song was a 1907 music hall song and was covered by many musicians. Claire only sang a piece of it….which Fanny ALSO does. Babies DO have recollections of music! There was a classical cellist who was practicing a particular piece while pregnant and her baby came out of the womb 1:09:05 humming it. This was years ago, but it made news. Also, many years ago, I read the two books about a very bright child with CP named Karen Killilea. Her mother of one of the people responsible for introducing special ed in public schools. At age TWO months, Karen was humming classical music. Regarding Faith surviving, Master Raymond seems to have super powers. Diana Gabaldon talked about her desire to write books about him. He is supposedly 8000 years old and is the first time traveler. I could imagine he might revive the infant and possibly take her to a future where she could be stabilized. So yeah, I think it’s believable. I noticed other commenters below kind of agree. I personally find the idea emotionally satisfying. I also loved the scenes with Jamie and Claire.

Great observations! I still come back to the fact that.. a baby who was deseased for a whole day before Louise was able to get Claire to hand her over, could still be alive.... that's where you lose me. Especially with constant examples of OTHER travellers existing. To me, it's MUCH more likely that Fanny's mom heard the song from someone else. And I'm sure we'll figure out how. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!!

My first thought was that Master Raymond took the baby through time to be raised by someone else because he some how knew what Claire's future held. What if Claires parents didn't die. What if Claires mom is in a different time and Master Raymond brings the baby to her to raise in colonial times of America. Anything is possible. I have always had the feeling that Master Raymond is playing around with time and his relations through time.
@TheBookRefuge
@TheBookRefuge 4 күн бұрын
Maybe! We shall see what info Blood of My Blood brings to the table. I think Master Raymond might not even be asking forgiveness for something to do with Faith. It could have to do with her parents. And he knows when she finds out what he's done, she'll blame him. Anything is possible when they break from the books. I'm as blind as anyone else.

When the subject of Faith as Jane and Fanny's mother came up in the books, i had a sneaking suspicion that there had to be a connection to Claire. Kristen Atherton is FANTASTIC as a Narrator! Listen to her narrate "Never Rescue a Rogue: A Novel (The Merriwell Sisters Book 2)" by Virginia Heath. Kristen will be great in the Audiobooks for Outlander! I love Davina Porter, but she is retired. It would be nice to have dual narrators like maybe Kristen to do the female characters and Jeff Woodman or Will Watt to do the male characters. I love Jeff Woodman's narration of Lord John Gray. I'm not sure what the show will do about the "Faith" cliffhanger. I think they might make it that Jamie convinces Claire that it's just a coincidence, but if it is really the way they are going, I'm really interested to see how they are going to explain it. Diana did give the show some of the story for Book 10 that they could use if they wanted to & she did say that she was satisfied with how they ended it & that it won't be the same way as the ending for the books. I think we'll get Dottie, Hal, and Ben in S8. Joey Phillips (Denzel) did allude to Denzel having a love interest which would be Dottie. Those 3 characters are important to Lord John's storyline in Bees which is the main book that S8 will focus on and Hal did mention Ben in his discussion with LJ Ep 14. And Fergus & Marsali & kids will be in S8, too, so that's good! I also think that we'll see Jenny come to the Ridge in S8 and meet Roger & Bree "again" and really see that Claire is telling the truth about time travel. She'll probably see Buck again, too, since Buck will be in S8. Maybe Buck comes to stay on the Ridge. Looking forward to it, but at the same time, I don't want it to end!

@@TheBookRefuge Yes, but it's very difficult to do that in a TV show & be able to make the audience understand what she says. So, they didn't give her that speech impediment.

I don't personally theorize that. I honestly don't think there is a connection at all. I think it's wishful thinking for Claire, and will be quickly dispelled. It's also possible that Master Raymond is asking forgiveness for something that has nothing to do with Faith... but when Claire dreams of him, and then hears that song... she makes that leap.

@TheBookRefuge I'm pretty sure that leap was on purpose. I'm convinced that Frances and Jane is Claire and Jamie's granddaughters. There's literally no other explanation.

I havent finished the video, but i feel like all the comments are glossing over the fact that, if Faith lived, and Jane and fanny are jamie and Claire's grandkids, that would make jane William's neice....@TheBookRefuge

I was distracted when Claire was laying in bed and recovering, and all she had was that flimsy nightgown, costume design wise, why wouldn't they at least have a shawl Around her shoulders,? I know it's kind of a silly minor thing. But I was so distracted when she's, just coming out of being nearly dead and then cuddles up to him. Beautiful, but skeptical.put something on those shoulders.

@@jillshestokas2237 I was wishing they would cover her up more too. She was so cold from so much blood loss.

I really thought the Faith story line was unwarranted to be honest. We only have one more season it’s probably going to be rushed again.

This was a near perfect episode until the last few minutes. So close and then they completely jumped the rails. Talk about playing your audience for…what? Buzz? Talk? Maybe it’s another bait and switch, like 511, when they did the “Roger/Brianna travel back through the stones”, NOT! Oy Vey! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Haha! We don't talk about Journeycake, Lisa. JK, but for real. When I pull my head back a bit, I understand why they want to keep us guessing... and you say, "just for buzz"... but Outlander truly has had downhill rating for a long time now. Getting buzz and getting people hyped and talking about both the final season AND Blood of My Blood isn't anything to sneeze at... it's no fun to feel jerked around but they still got to play the Hollywood game to a certain extent. The way they ended this season... it's already got people spinning like mad. It annoys me slightly because I feel like I'm in for months of talking people off a ledge about Faith, but I also can tip my glass and say well played. I was SO SURE about where this season was going to end. Just took it for granted actually. And they had me on the edge of my seat right at the end, even if i was a bit mad in the moment. Anyway, THIS ended up longer than I meant it too. haha! Thanks for watching, Lisa, you rock!
