I had never heard of self adjusting light bulbs until today. What a great invention! I really like your mirror trick, too - to use a mirror to reflect light and shadow shapes on the wall.

The worst is a bookcase without books, full of decorative items. It's so common, that I believe that it is a trend. Also, a bookcase with colors arranged books or a bookcase with books with their back to the wall makes me uncomfortable.
@chickenleg0022 жыл бұрын
The color thing ACTUALLY makes sense to me! I used to work at a book store and at least twice a week someone came in looking for a book of a certain color that they had seen "about 2 weeks ago". (Also 90% of the time it was the color blue.) So while subject or author take precedent for most of us, color is the most salient characteristic for some.

Agree with gradients and contrast. My ex had a love for red, and the red curtain just stressed me out 😂

Interesting video. Soft graduated neutrals are great but I don't think you can lose with high contrast black and white photography- especially if beautifully framed! Love these videos:)

I love buying myself flowers and placing them in vases. The place where I buy them have a 3 for 2 offer always, so you can mix and match different flowers/leaves etc. I always make sure to get something different each time I buy them. This way I create change buy every 3-4 weeks changing the flowers in my vases 💐

Interestingly on contrast, I read somewhere once that of you have more subdued features with little contrast, that high contrast outfits are too stark on you. If you have high contrast features, like pale skin, dark hair and eyes, then high contrast works for you. I am quite low contrast and my home is decorated the same way. I prefer warm tones in my home.

I agree about most high contrast. Black and white (cream) might be my exception. Love your perspective on all home decor. So happy I stumbled upon your channel!

I love neutrals (our house is white, grey, brown inside and out). But I remember staying at a hotel in Oxfordshire and I loved the mid-dark heritage colours too. Not high contrast, but dark greys, natural woods floors, charcoal trims and furnishings, warmed up by lighting with filament bulbs. I normally have issues sleeping in hotels but I found it surprisingly cocooning and restful. It’s just an aesthetic that has stayed with me and something I want to do to a room for our next house move 🤞💫

This seems like a visual interior design like color melted hair. This video was very helpful for me to discern why I liked dark jewel tones almost swirling together. It is because it makes a visually harmonious rich sea of color without the high contrast moments. As someone who needs an environment that balances between stimulating and soothing it works quite well. Statement items might not stand out in that sort of design.
@pelipequi14932 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you on using low contrast colors. If I were to have colored walls, I would use a deep beige, grey, green, or blue, but nothing too drastic. For now, it's white walls and lots of artwork.

Hi Jenny.....I've got to go back and rewatch this video! I missed most of it because I was so obsessed/distracted by the gorgeous garment you were wearing. Is it a dress? Is it a shirt? If it IS a shirt what were you wearing it with? Can you post a youtube short of a full length view of you in it? I'd love to see the whole garment.

I totally understand and appreciate the apprehension toward strong contrast - it can seem jarring if you want a calming space. For myself, I really love bold contrast (pink/green, ochre/deep blue) because it is really stimulating and pleasing to me. However, I'd be lying if I didn't see the benefit and comfort in a monochromatic or gradient palette. Great video!!

Sliding scale is better even if you use colour. I have high contrast in my home office / 2nd bedroom for the energy but generally speaking I prefer cohesion whether neutral or colourful. My current fave is painted woodwork for a pop of colour in a neutral room. I love that

Could you talk about how to create a space with a large black tv over a fireplace? We are building a barn structure to provide guest bedrooms, a three car garage with an office space and bar seating; kitchen, living and art space facing a lake. In other words very casual. I want a quiet interior in favor of the woods and lake views. What to do about that tv over the fireplace? No hearth, mantel is optional. The color scheme is coming off a dark cherry cabinet we already have, so a slightly reddish brown will be the deepest color repeated in the flooring and maybe the lower kitchen cabinets. A column of black from the hearth to the ceiling seems stark and too attention getting. I would appreciate an idea. Thanks so much.

Oof I’ve definitely made some of these mistakes. I’ve been so bored and uncomfortable in my house recently. I know part of it is that I’ve been inside so much over the pandemic, but also because I’m so tired of my unthoughtful design. Time to make a few conservative upgrades!
