This is an introduction into the process of butchering chickens at home. If you are thinking about butchering your own chickens but are unsure if you could do it or not, I encourage you to try it! We started doing this with no prior experience beyond watching youtube videos. If you can’t get to a workshop or visit someone nearby to see how they do it, you can still cutcher your own chickens at home.

Good job you guys. It always feels good to get all that food stored away. Cutting them up has been so helpful for us. Cooking is simple when you have piece’s instead of a whole chicken to deal with.

Nice job guys! You'll be eating some good chicken this winter. Not the pathetic grocery chicken that you need two to feed a family of three, but a nice plump chicken raised with kindness. Does not get any better than that! Cheers!

I think your right about the heat, I just did 76 chickens I started with 100, they turned out about the same weight. I've been doing this for about 15 years and have never gone under 7lb, weight. I had to water them four time a day, 25 gallons of water each time, it was a lot work more than ever, than in the past. Great job !

Do you have an exact amount of time you like letting the whole chickens rest in the cooler? And do you have a name for the propane burner you used? As a 15 year old in Canada I love Watching you guys!!
@ODriscolls
@ODriscolls 2 жыл бұрын
So glad you love watching! We let them rest a minimum of 24 hours and then like to have it all finished within 48 hours. Some people put them in the freezer right away. I just went outside to look at the burner and there are no distinguishing marks lol, generic burner.

Great video once again!!! I couldn't stop laughing at your dummy 🤣, especially when you put him in the cone lol. Do you sanitize everything before and after, with lysol? Then rinse with water? I'll try to remember about putting the birds in a bucket of water before scalding!! Did you just leave them in it for a few seconds? You should do workshops!!!
@ODriscolls
@ODriscolls 2 жыл бұрын
We sanitize the table and the coolers! Everything else is in contact with chicken poop so no point. We do clean it all very well with soapy water and I leave no trace of anything at the end of the day (the cones and plucker and scalder). I just filled a 5 gallon bucket with the hose and dunked the birds right before plucking for probably 5 seconds.
