I feel so sad and sorry for your brother in law. He was a good family man who got injured while providing for his family. Instead of leaving him since she was tired of being his caretaker, your sister had a long term affair and a child from that relationship, then conspired with your mother and her boyfriend to kill him so she can keep his money. Your sister should have received a life in prison sentence as well. Neither of them could have done it without her agreement. She was his wife and the one who was supposed to help protect him especially in his vulnerable state. Glad his brother spoke up and help brought justice. May your BIL rest in peace.

I see this in divorce cases. One party wants to divorce due to irreconcilable differences but still wants half or all the money. For Hmong customs, if you want the divorce you give the money as departure. Divorce laws not fair in USA.
