I fell in love with the canals after my friend bought a narrowboat and 5 of us did a 2 week trip from Northampton to Birmingham and back and the journey was fun.

Nice to see that you have good memories of Alvechurch. I have no such good memories of my roots in Coundon.

The Alvechurch Rant at Barnt Green had me laughing in stitches! Like you mentioned that the Southern section brings back memories, the Northern section of the Cross City line was part of my childhood when there was no Station at Rugeley Town and less of a service at Rugeley TV, Lichfield City was used to get trains down to Birmingham (Which involves a bus as well) and as mentioned in the comments in the last video, thank you for inviting me again for the Southern part of the Cross City Line

Your recollection of Alvechurch Marina has also brought back memories of my own - walking from our house down the road for about 2 miles to the Hopwood moorings to see the barges there, before turning round and going back home. Longbridge retail area is also very handy for me, again within walking distance of our house, and far better than Northfield is now. I haven't been to Bromsgrove in years - maybe when West Midlands ran the 145! Might need to rectify that soon, now that they are running the 144A and apparently DaySavers are valid on the entire route.

Thank you Jen and sim on trains. I have enjoyed the cross city line especially as I have train sim world 3 and love the route. It is a much quieter route than expected or maybe just time of day. Great to see you have many great memories of the canals

Hi Jen, and Simon, Great video as usual, I totally understood your emotion at Alvechurch, I get that when I revisit Plumstead, Woolwich, and Southend-on-Sea... Pity you weren't around at Manchester Piccadilly last week, the lady at the Costa recognised your You Tube image when I showed her, she said you call at her coffee stall all the time...🙂 I shall look forward to your next video... Take care, Jon B.

Completely agree with the ticket rant - the cardboard ones are so much more practical. Though I'm not as keen on them as one of my colleagues from work, who has a stack in his desk of every train ticket he has used in the last about 10 years (and was most vexed when 2020/ 2021 failed to provide a decent supply).

I've really enjoyed this series - I haven't used the x-city line since I finished at the Uni of Birmingham 30+ years ago and so much has changed, especially on the southern part. Glad to know my pronunciation of Alvechurch has always been correct! Back then Bromsgrove was the Pilning of Worcestershire and now it is a 4-platform metropolis!

That's the version of Bromsgrove that I clearly remember!

Brilliant video its amazing to see Longbridge again as i tried to film trains there a few weeks ago when i was on a short trip in the Birmingham area but i had to abandon that due to having an incident there but i want to go back there in the future and try again as a lot of people have said its a popular station for trainspotters and again im loving the 323s the best sounding trains in the uk keep up the awesome work

Brilliant video Jen, I've heard the announcements from Anne that mention Alvechurch getting it wrong and the Julie Berry ones have got it right innit? lol. And yes you've got the right idea about Reditch lol. Love the captions on this, they really do make me chuckle. :)

The ticket office at Longbridge was never part of Longbridge station. The station closed in 1919. The ticket office building was built long after that. The building was used mainly for parcels but you could also buy tickets, but not for Longbridge station. The station had workers trains until 1960. You couldn’t buy tickets from the building though. It had the BR double arrow logo on it. This logo was released in 1965. 5 years after the station saw it’s last train.

Perhaps you did this entire journey backwards, because if you'd started in Redditch you'd have spent all that time getting further and further away from it! :) Great ending to this (unplanned?) mini-series.

I quite like Redditch, stayed there on a very deliberate holiday to bits of the UK I had not done, far enough away from Birmingham not to be busy. I think I like Barnt Green - doesnt look too posh to me. I cannot totally remember Bromsgrove, for some reason I wasnt taking photos at the time. I sort of lost interest when Midland Red shut down

Been awesome to watch the Cross City Finale with Cyber! Yes Alvechurch has improved with the loop line but shame it's not used to it's full potential. As I am originally from Kidderminster i'm not a fan of Redditch either and was there for 8 mins when i did the Cross City line. Old Bromsgrove is better as you see trains thrashing up and down the lickey Incline.

I went to Longbridge Town Centre Costa! Whilst waiting for a 144A! I think the reason they've introduced those crap tickets is to encourage us to use mobile ticketing! Which I refuse to do!
