What a brilliant channel. I found your channel via Paul and Rebecca Whitewick. And this is a fab video. I've not been to the new Birmingham New Street, I now do cars to go visit my mom in Shropshire, I've heard New Street is a shopping Centre with a railway station, not the other way round.

I did Lichfield City to Litchfield TV return with a friend when I visited Litchfield for a band weekend several years ago, my ticket with railcard costing me all of 60p (my friend didn't have his railcard, so cost him 90p). I finished Litchfield to New St in early 2020, pre-pandemic, as well as most of Rugeley TV to New St. I went to uni in Leicester, so Birmingham was an easy train journey to tick off stops. Unfortunately, the pandemic cut short my residency by about 3 months, so I couldn'd do as many as I wanted. Also, the WMR 323s weren't named when I saw them all. I do really like the 323s, especially the sound, but I still have about half the northern ones to see because I haven't spent much time in the manchester area. I've seen most of the 350s, and really like them too (I have a /1 and a /2 in model form, why hasn't bachmann done /3s and /4s yet?), but the majority of trains on my new local line are 450s so they sound the same even though they're 3rd rail.

intriguing video , but having lived in Lichfield for around 40 years from 1974 ive seen changes from an hourly Conventional DMU service to when the cross city was born with more DMUS through to electrification when 304s 308s 310s and 312s worked before 323s .... the service and route just constantly changes

Nice video, Boldmere is a bit of a hike from Chester Road to be honest. Wylde Green shopping area is actually very close to the station, much closer than the actual Wylde Green station...

Used to cycle along the cross city line on the canal from University Station and get off the canal by the mailbox when i was a student! If i was feeling lazy i did get on the train to New street lol

They probably didn't call Chester Road 'Boldmere' because Wylde Green is actually closer to Boldmere.

Because I am not British and don't know much about British trains, I looked up the 350s after you explained their hatred for them, and it seemed they are based on the Siemens Desiro platform, as someone who has been in trains in Belgium, that explains a lot. The Desiros there are also terrible.

Great video Jen. Will be sad to see the 323s go. They’re iconic trains and very symbolic of the crosscity line in the 21st century. No doubt that their replacements will be an upgrade, but I worry that the soul of the crosscity line will go when the 323s are replaced

Hi Jen, Great video, I've ridden on those 323's loads of times on that route, and also been via Birmingham New Street, I have also stood in that exact same spot where you and SimOn were standing at Great Central...I was there so often I pretty much saw the whole rebuild... Hopefully I'll get back there one day soon and if I let you know when then it would be my pleasure to buy you a coffee or two in person...in closing I would just also add that I find the sound of the 323's unique. Oh you are really doing a nostalgia trip for me aren't you. Lived between Wylde Green and Chester Road, worked in the jewelery quarter. But all so many years ago. Villa were my 2nd team, always been a Man. City supporter, even part of the reason that I finally ended up in Manchester, before fleeing the country. If you complete my nostalgia trip, then you need to go and find the Deserted station at the back of my old school. Clue Coventry.

Recalling the three Carriage DMU's, that used to patrol that line. Recalling the electric APT, that was seen at Lichfield Trent Valley. Recalling the time when the area around Blake Street, was devoid of Houses. Recalling (not in my lifetime) the fatal Train Crash, that occurred in the Tunnel at Sutton Coldfield. And finally. There's nowt wrong with Redditch, it just needs a little understanding.🙂🙂

The Class 323 will be missed on West Midlands Railway once the Class 730 has entered service. At least they will be cascaded to Northern so they be more popular on the Manchester-Hadfield & Gosslop lines and other lines around Greater Manchester.

Brilliant vlog i love the class 323s and loving the robotic noises they make and i agree with you about the 350/2 im not a fan of the 350/2s it would be nice if they refurbish them and fit them with power chargers as ive seen them on long distance services from London to Birmingham/Crewe keep up the awesome work

Ohhhhh you should have just intercut the different dungarees and looped the sound/got simontrains to green screen and not explained why the dungarees changed. That would be like how I used to see Michale Portillo get off a train that changed colour.
