The 32X cancelled library seems better than the 32X actual library. I guess the only thing Sega forgot to put on the 32X was a brand new Sonic, a Streets of Rage game of some kind, and maybe a Shining Force or Phantasy Star RPG or both or any RPG for that matter.

Knuckles Choatix was good, but I think a new Sonic sequel would have been a better move for Sega. Had they released a Sonic 4 exclusively on the 32X as a launch game I think that alone would have sold a lot more units.
@jimstone88424 жыл бұрын
@@pauldavis5665 Knuckles Chaotix is certainly better than any Sonic game sega put out since then until Mania, but it was a little half baked. If they would've had more time to finish the levels, and maybe developed a single player mode that didn't use the combi-ring, it would've been fantastic, instead what we got was good but not as good as the 16bit games.

I'm also really glad I never paid money for the Genesis version of Michael Jackson Moonwalker back then. The arcade was also an awesome beat 'em up! I expected that to be the "Genesis" vesion. The mistakes committed by Sega's management around the time of the 32X's release were grievous and numerous to the point of being timeline-altering, all but ensuring the company's eventual demise. The reason AVP development never moved to another platform was apparently because 20th Century Fox hated the game. There was this Twitter thread by the former Capcom artist Akitomo about how western comics influenced Capcom games and he mentions that Capcom kept asking 20th Century Fox to let them port the game up until 2000, but they kept refusing. He speculated that they didn't like that it was an action beat-em-up instead of a scary horror game. Of course, in 2019, they relented and Capcom put it on the overpriced arcade stick, but I think 20th Century Fox was just doing whatever they wanted at that point before The Mouse swallowed them up. Additional fun fact: Linn Kurosawa was created because they wanted to include Machiko from the comics but only had the rights to characters from the movies.

And I loved Zero Tolerance on the Genesis!!
@Jenovi6 жыл бұрын
An unreal amount of money. The decision to end the Genesis and 32X wasn't well thought out. It not only hurt Sega, but also every company that had invested their future into these systems. I'm not done with my research just yet, but there are about 3 canceled games for every game that released. More important I believe is the amount of time the system was being supported vs the number of games that released vs what got canned. A system like the Jag was on the market for nearly 3 years yet has close to the same number of games as the 32X.

Something to bear in mind about the Duel demo and Mean Machines is that IIRC their sister magazine, which was the official Sega Magazine, published arcade shots of some games claiming that they were the Saturn or 32x versions (Virtua Racing and Daytona, for example). Mean Machines may have published them too, but I can't remember. Magazines of the time were quite good at either misunderstanding or misrepresenting what they were being shown. Judging from the small, low quality clip available, that Duel demo's animation was extremely impressive for the time. IMO too impressive for building actual game from at the time.

The thing with the 32X is it had little to no reason to be. The Saturn, though rushed out, was something that had a very short time before release, and SEGA had flooded the market with their products by then - Mega Drive, SEGA CD, GG, and SMS were _all active!_ and the Saturn was a few months' time away from arrival. Then comes an add-on... for a console that _already had_ an add-on (that gave it better benefits than the 32X itself offered). And then you remember that the Mega Drive had a Virtua Racing port that moped the floor ten thousand times with any 3D game the SNES had, and consider you could use that tech to develop other blazing fast 3D games. What the hell would you want the 32X for, then? Everything that was meant for it, or released on it, should've been left to CD, SVP or Saturn... All these cancelled games tell, however, that there were a lot of devs willing to bet on it. Shame.

Well, maybe just in my mind. Growing up, nearly everyone owned or had friends who owned a Mario game, Contra, a Mega Man game, T & C Surf, and California Games for the NES. I never even knew until I was an adult that California Games was released on other systems because I had only seen it for the NES. So to me, it was an NES classic being it's the platform everyone owned it on. So, yeah maybe I shouldn't have definitively said that being it was based on my experience rather than fact. Appreciate the comment and feedback.

In my opinion, Sega should have rode out the 32X another year so more games could have been finished and released. It is NOT a bad system, despite the poor reputation it has. It just has a lackluster library of games. If you can find out on eBay or somewhere for cheap, get it. I wish I still had mine just for the sake of nostaglia.

The 32x was an impressive machine, but it came out too late, the Sega Saturn was already in development and came out shortly after.

The Jaguar also had far more announced games than games actually released. Of course the Jaguar, like the Dreamcast, has a very active aftermarket and homebrew community. I've never seen any aftermarket releases for the 32X. Instead of releasing another Genesis/MD Mini, I'd love to see Sega release the Neptune, a planned console that would play all Genesis and 32X cartridge based games. Prototypes and reproductions exist. There have been several aftermarket releases for the Genesis/MD. I have 4 or 5 in my collection.

I liked the 32x. It was just a really awkward system with many factors that caused it's demise but I had a blast playing this space fighter game it had with my friend as it was co-op. I remember him flying the ship while I was the gunner.

Man some of these could have been really great! If only the slot in Sega Saturn would have accommodated 32x carts as well maybe they could have continued these titles and more.

Yes I'd like to see more. Is it true the 32x enhances the visuals of the Genesis? Thanks. I subbed by the way. 😋👍
@Jenovi5 жыл бұрын
Enhanced might be the wrong way to think of it. It was a new system that build upon the prior, just like all Sega Systems before it. I.E. the Genesis was build upon the Master System. So the 32X had full access to the Genesis hardware along with more powerful hardware to layer more technical details into the picture.

At 11:30 Is that the real cover art for "Duel"? The lizard man totally looks like a Xindi from Star Trek: Enterprise
@Jenovi6 жыл бұрын
Ha! Good eye. It's a little easter egg I put in there for my fellow Trek fans. I actually made all the box art myself as not much exist, and if it does it's very low quality.
@sidsinnocence6 жыл бұрын
Hah! Awesome. Good job! You had me on a hook when I paused the vid to take a closer look. I was thinking maybe the design for a creature in an unreleased game inspired a show runner for Enterprise. Ya'know, cuz there's nothing new under the sun and creative types love to pull from obscure material. You matched the Xindi to the source material well. The creature in the maybe-tech demo and Xindi do look pretty similar

Is there any documentation around the 32x port of AvP? I ask because Capcom didn't support the Genesis very much, releasing only six games. But the port of Punisher was done not by Capcom themselves, but Sculptured Software, which makes me wonder if they were working on the AvP port as well...
@Jenovi6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, at this time there isn't. We know what games they had in development for the system (Street Fighter, AVP, and Darkstalkers) and that's about it. It's a real shame because I love AVP, in fact, I played through it with my son last Friday. It's still an amazing game I wish more people could experience.
@SameNameDifferentGame6 жыл бұрын
It is still a super good brawler, but the Punisher port to the Genesis is a bit lacking, so I can't help but wonder if AvP could have fallen victim to the same fate.
@SuperKokuJin9166 жыл бұрын
Capcom could've actually been releasing near perfect ports of their arcade titles. If anyone could've unlocked the true power of the 32X besides Sega, it would've been Capcom! AVP would've been a crown jewel for the 32X. And I'm almost certain the Street Fighter title in development would've been Super Turbo. Capcom could've righted the wrongs of the Genesis port of vanilla Super. It looked and sounded terrible. I did NOT see nor hear 40 Megs of assets in that release. It felt like a Western developed port (future research for that one!). I was a HUGE Darkstalkers fan and would've bought a 32X just for that one alone.

Marco Lara it’s an issue for sure. I think the best way for me to show what I'm talking about is by sharing a video with you. It's a must watch and really mirrors how I feel while discussing the fallout from the port missing it’s mark. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3aoYoSHd9edaqs
