Is it just me that thinks that goalies that leave the crease to get to the puck with speed knowing damn well an opponent coming right at it with high speed should count as a skater? like with Binnington for example, what do you expect if you do something like he did? Anyway.. great compilation!
@N_manMETA114 жыл бұрын
That would make sense on the surface, but you also have to consider the restraints a goalie falls under when posessing the puck. If they have the puck behind the goal line, they must stay inside the trapezoid. They cannot posess the puck past their own blue line. It's one thing if he's over by the boards with it, but he came out to challenge a breakaway... which is what a goalie is trained to do. They are supposed to come out of the crease to limit angles, so to say he should be treated as a skater is (again) a cool concept, but also incredibly unfair to goaltender safety, as they cannot evade hits and such the same way a skater can. Their sticks do not allow for accurate long range/cross ice passing or any type of shot really. They can't be a realistically dangerous offensive weapon, so treating them as a skater not only jeopardizes their safey further, but it wouldn't really help the team doing it. In fact, it would really only cause more trouble, you have to worry about the other team clearing and getting a goal, you have to worry about your goalie taking even more hits, because again, they can't really evade and escape. It would just be a bad rule in terms of practicality as well as being very unfair to the defending team.

The sequence im talking about is just the one you described, I’m sorry if that wasn’ clear in my original comment, I’m not a native english speaker. I’m not saying they should get hit if they go to stop the puck or whatever behind the crease/close to the crease, but to challenge someone who he sees coming with such a speed and then be like ”woah did you just run over me?” Knowing damn well it was his fault, it’s just stupid. Thanks.
