Honestly, and while I’m just as big of a football fan, my favorite and hometown team (Dallas Stars) have consistently over the years done meet and greets at various locations around DFW and they’re always so humble and nice to everyone. Jamie Benn had a full conversation with my mom the season following my dad’s passing and he teared up because watching our Stars was an escape from everything happening. I’m not sure if football players (especially for the Cowboys) would say much to it, but the captain of a major league team in a major sports league actually had a human conversation and actually cared about one of the many people who cheer for them.

Not sure it's something you'd want to do, gets into the sad vs hockey stuff, but there are numerous stories of kids that love hockey or hockey players. One here in New England is Liam... AKA "The fist bump kid" which is extremely heart warming. Not really in the make a wish area, but he has Downs syndrome as well as dealing with Leukemia before the age of 5.
