Seems like a lot of energy for trickle of water. I absolutely love the whole set up though. Odly relaxing and picturesque.

They don't use much electricity... Motor has little to no load on it die to gearing.. I repair Wells all over the us. Most efficient way to pump. That's why some from the 30s are still running

Those little jacks are worth some money. My town is where they were made. My dad actually made some when he worked there right out of high school. He may have had his hands on that very one. Who knows.

I just subscribed . I made a water pump that uses two check valves and pcv pipe it pushes water up thru one check valve on the down stroke. on the up stroke water enters thru a foot check valve. i used smaller diameter schedule 80 PCV for the sucker rod. Now ii need to make a pump jack to power it. Possibly power it with a savinous rotor windmill.

I would love to more about this.my dad is almost 90 and needed to pull his pump. He had a friend help him and unfortunately dropped the pump! He had a man try to fish but no luck. We are going to try our luck. But he said that we may go around the old pump with a set up like this. Any info would be great. I've been.looking for a after market Jenson with no luck

Nice! I am assuming the water is used for irrigation?
@chines72
@chines72 7 жыл бұрын
It's just for stock water in a corral. The well only produces about 1/2 gallon/min so not exactly an irrigation well ;-) That's why I run it slow and on a timer to keep from pumping the hole dry.

Solar powered? Looks like an old bore. I see the old windmill in the dirt in the background. I have designed a stroke controller that varies pump stroke based on the energy available. It can be driven from a windpump or electric or IC motor. Starts out with very small stroke and increases stroke length as the driving power source increases power. Good for solar and wind power sources driving a deep positive displacement piston pump. When wind/sun are low the small stroke provides at least some water. As wind/sun increases the stroke length increases to provide much more efficient pumping. Very good for wind mills because wind energy is a cubic function of wind speed. By slowing the wind mill down with longer strokes the mill can stay into wind longer and derive much more energy safely. Currently windmills turn out of wind because their rpms are too high. Based on improved ideas from the 80s. Simple and reliable.

What about (in theory) disconnecting the arm from the gearbox and moving it by hand (upwards and downward) ?

Cool set-up but doesn't seem efficient for the volume of water being produced. But ut does have a cool factor...

This pump jack was made by Jensen Bros. in the 1950's. They are still in business, just not making the smaller models anymore. But I still see them occasionally in West Texas and New Mexico, and there was one just like this for sale at the Texas Early Day Tractor & Gas Engine Show in Temple, Tx last year. As for installing it, any water well service company that does windmills should do the job.

Is it possible to move the arm (and pump water out of that well) by hand or is it too hard ?
@chines72
@chines72 7 жыл бұрын
The gearbox pulley is pretty easy to turn by hand, and the counterweights on the flywheels make it a fairly constant torque over the full stroke. But the gearbox ratio is 10.6 revs/stroke, so it would take a lot of spins hand cranking to pump even a few gallons. A bicycle with the right pulley diameter might work in place of the electric motor though. This motor only draws around 120 watts at 10 strokes/min, so a bicyclist could probably match that.

How far down do the sucker rods need to go to not deplete the well?
@chines72
@chines72 7 жыл бұрын
It has 145' of 5/8" fiberglass sucker rod. The total depth of the hole is 165' and the static water level is around 85'. The well doesn't make much, and even with that many feet of storage in the hole, It will pump down if running too fast for too long. To avoid running dry and burning the leathers, I turn the speed down pretty slow and cycle it on a 30-minute timer when running.

Why u set it so slow ? I mean if it move faster ,the more water come out right ? Did u have a reason for that ?
@JimNichols
@JimNichols 3 жыл бұрын
The well only produces so much water so the pump runs slowly as not to pump the well dry, also why pump water at 10gpm when you only need 1gpm for your purpose (watering livestock)?
