Nice clickbait title. Obviously, *"Is Lewis Hamilton a good guy?"* isn't posed to Button. Next time, use one of these: *_"Why Lewis Hamilton Hasn't Been Knighted"_* or *_"Jenson Button Will be Knighted Before Lewis Hamilton"_* ;-) 13:39 Can anyone enlighten me as to these wheel-to-wheel fights? Button was a good driver, but not in HAM's league where outright speed and wheel-to-wheel combat are concerned. It took a personal implosion, heavily influenced by matters in his private life, for HAM to lose to Button over the course of a season. No one objectively assessing 2011, HAM's racing annus horribilis, would call it otherwise. Button needed all his level-headedness and the benefit of ~7 more years in F1 to overcome an imploding HAM for that 1 season. 16:00 It's far simpler. HAM could and can still drive just about anything extremely quickly whereas Button was average when the car setup wasn't to his liking.
@iamrob74 жыл бұрын
Fanboys like you in any sport are pretty tragic. Of course he was in his league. He outraced him on many occasions throughout the 3 years. Hamilton as button says was much more consistently fast in qualifying, although not always. Presumably you have a range of excuses for Hamilton to explain why Button was able to out qualify and out race Hamilton throughout the 3 years on different occasions. It's much simpler to just be honest and say, sometimes Button was faster/better, sometimes Hamilton was faster/better. Overall Hamilton was and had more success than Button, particularly in qualifying. It was a closely fought competition between the two.

Apparently, Hamilton hasn't improved himself since 2012. The Hamilton who Button went up against is nowhere near the Hamilton we see today; way more complete, way more composed, way more calculated, way more experienced. Also, any driver pairing that doesn't have to go through team orders and has the best car for an extended period of time will fall out. No question. If Alonso or Verstappen would've been placed next to Rosberg at Mercedes, the same shenanigans would've occurred between 2014-2016. The young guns like Verstappen and Leclerc keep Hamilton sharp; they're like him in his first few years in the sport; HUNGRY to beat everyone. Together with Mercedes, Hamilton is the modern and improved embodiment of the Schumacher-Ferrari partnership who took on similar young guns like Räikkönen and Montoya two decades ago. The fact that he had to get beat by the likes of Button and Rosberg, two world champions, to get where he is today is something he'll undoubtedly take for granted. It's only improved him as a whole.

But when you consider the disparity in budgets between Brawn/Todt,Rory ferrari and the field versus mercedes/redbull and ferrari - I'd wager what Lewis continues to accomplish is extraordinary. Schumacher enjoyed, number 1 status, a weak teammate, by far the largest budget, infinite testing - often at 3 circuits simultaneously, bespoke tires, all backed by the might of ferrari and the FIA.

I was always a JB fan throughout his F1 career. Good seasons and bad from the beginning. Probably the smoothest and fluid driving style of any driver since Prost. Had a fantastic season in 04 finishing 3rd in the championship behind the unbeatable Ferrari’s. World champion in 09 in an amazing car with a very fast team mate in Barrichello. The difference between him and Hamilton as drivers is obvious. Jenson could never find the one lap qualifying speed the way Lewis could and does. His driving style needed a virtual perfect set up or he struggled. Lewis is a more aggressive driver and it allows him to drive around a car without a perfect set up. That’s it .

@acke264 жыл бұрын
@@maxbrennan8221 - we can call Hamilton spoiled or whatever, but he didn't feel inspired to achieve his best in a car that was far from a race winner. Button on the other hand had everyhing to win or prove. Usually Jenson is humble, but this time he was a bad looser not acknowledging Hamilton. If we set aside all the numbers, Hamilton is a much better racingdriver overall. Vettel and Rosberg are phenomenally fast over one lap and has built their racing carers on that. Button is known for his tire and fuel saving driving. But when compared to Hamilton they all lack the overtaking and racing skills. Or not to mention Hamiltons greatest asset, his racing awareness. Button being a countryman to Britain's biggest racing driver and not acknowledging him is just pathetic. Even more so when mentioning that Lewis Hamilton has a race winning car when winning all his titles. Jenson Button won his two titles in the most dominant Brawn. Listen to David Coldtardt. He was one of the cockiest drivers, but now when he's retired he praises Hamilton. So does all the British former F1 drivers but Button.
@maxbrennan82214 жыл бұрын
Acke I’m not playing down Hamilton’s driving at all, and I don’t think Jenson is either. In the video, he said that the Lewis he raced against is different from the Lewis of today, and of course that’s true - any sportsman changes over time. When Lewis fought for the title in 07, he lost it due to some rookie errors (he was a rookie, so it’s hard to fault him for that, but still). When he won in 08 it was far from a dominant performance as he was fighting with the Ferraris all season. Now we see him dominating the field because he’s the most complete driver on the grid, but it wasn’t always that way. Lewis was much younger than Jenson when they were team mates, and it’s fair to say that he probably learned a lot from him even though they were rivals. You don’t have to be better than someone to teach them something and Lewis probably learned a lot from Jenson’s racing style - as you mentioned, that was always a strength of his. In F1, you can’t be the best if you’re only a good qualifier, or only good on tyre management, or overtaking, or any of it. You have to be able to do it all to be successful, and Hamilton is so successful at the moment because he’s good at every aspect of racing - he’s a brilliant qualifier, fierce but fair in wheel to wheel racing, doesn’t crash a lot when making overtakes, good at managing tyres and fuel but can absolutely blitz the lap times if needed. But he didn’t always have all those skills and he probably learned not just from Jenson but all of his strong competitors along the way. Jenson isn’t failing to acknowledge Lewis’s talent, he’s just saying that back then he wasn’t the same driver he is now which is totally fair. No disrespect to either of them, I think Lewis is the better driver but Button is also very good and is 100% qualified to make the points that he did and talk in the way that he did which was very respectful and honest.

JB benefited from Hamilton's woeful luck a ridiculous amount of times. @@Cal3000 Bottas' very fast, but raw talent is a determinating factor as to when you're gonna plateau in your evolution. Valtteri will always hit a wall before he can find the extra pace to beat Lewis. Nico needed Lewis' data, engineer and mechanics, and Lewis' unreliability to barely scrape by at the last race. Valtteri has had some of the same advantages and still the truth remain. Max Verstappen himself said that he is 'perplexed as to how Lewis can do all the extra curriculars and still be able to deliver at the highest level, because he himself is 💯 focus on racing only all the time'. Jenson was very good but there's a reason why he only won 1 championship and never got close again. He always embellishes his 3 year stint against Lewis at Maca. Only racers the caliber of Max have a shot at beating Lewis in the same car if they can remain consistant. Bottom line is if he stays long enough in F1 Lewis will slow down and become #2 or #3 or #4.

Jenson - good call on the road safety. I find it bewildering that people driving a ton, if not two tons of machinery that can kill at low speed let alone high speed. Why do people think they can ignore the highway code (UK) and drive poorly risking themselves and others. I wish the gov't here introduced a 5 year driving test. Normal test - for the same cost of a lesson. Hand your license in at the test center. Do your test. If you pass - the examiner signs your chit, or app to say you can your license back. If you are a sh*te driver - you do not collect your license. You are subject to an immediate ban. You take lessons to resit your test. Once you can prove you are no longer a danger to yourself, other car/van drivers, bikers and pedestrians - they you can have your license back. So many bad drivers now thinking they are so precious and they rules don't apply to them

If you do a net worth google search Jenson comes up with a number of figures from $20m - $150m. Odd. But do the same search for Damon Hill and only one figure comes up. $30m.

Driving on the phone? - easy Driving whilst drinking? (not alcohol) - easy Sorry but my Nissan GTR has a screen that's laggy and complex to use whilst driving and they come standard in most cars nowadays ffs, absolute RUBBISH.

I don’t understand the fuss surrounding Brawn. It was a rebranded Honda that had a full season of development time behind it as they were so shit in 2008. Not quite as magical as folk make out.

Just saying, but as a really, really long time Formula 1 fan, l thought it was an interesting interview. I heard details about Brawn GP, from Jensen, I had not heard before. And I was watching F1 when James Hunt and Murray Walker did the commentary.

I’m not sure I care too much about what Button has to say about Hamilton any more. Jensen HAD a lot going for him during his F1 career but that is now a distant memory. What I find a touch irritating is how much, still, the guy is being bigged up for his past achievements and his existing role as ‘an Ambassador of the sport’. Fine. But his feedback on the whole now is pretty irrelevant I believe.

Button is a real champion.... true talent and a true sportsmen. Thats what a champion is, not just someone who wins races but also a good example to the public and for his sport. Hamilton is great but think his still got some growing up to do. For me, of our generation Button is the best.

as jenson said about speed limit it depends on the roads motorways should be 110mph as top speed with a 15 percent limit as the speed limit a roads 70 mph not in built up areas but out of built up area 70 mph 25 mph on biult up areas and 85 mph on daul carrage ways the cars these days have better bracks and better control and handleing try 100 in a capri and it lifts up on the front same as the old cortinas and escorts feels like 140 mph at 100 in them the old jags xjs and xj was ok at those speeds
@iangascoigne82313 жыл бұрын
If you say so. What else did he say? There are horrendous crashes on the Autobahn. That’s what you’d get if the speed limit was 110 mph carnage. Then you’d get the usual idiots who wanted to go faster.

Cant we just appreciate drivers for their individual achievements? So many people detracting from Jenson's win and time at mclaren with Lewis. Jenson was an excellent driver. Jenson even admits that the Lewis he was faily close to (performance wise) from 2010 to 2013 is not the same one as today.
@lpy22613 жыл бұрын
i don’t get it when people say it’s impossible to identify the best driver of all time, only because it’s hamilton. f1 is a team sport and choosing your team should be a recognised skill. f1 is formulated to find out who the best driver is at every race and over an entire season so why is it so difficult to identify the best? it wasn’t too difficult before hamilton. since when has there ever been a title “one of the winners” or “one of the champions” in f1. there has always been one winner so hamilton is the greatest of all time. button was so quick to say verstappen was the most talented, i wonder how he measured that talent. the bias is so easy to spot button.
@Ali0075723 жыл бұрын
hamilton didn't choose merc, daimler wanted heidfeld (who would be for sure atleast 2x champ against Rosberg), after Lauda had started working for merc - he was the "enforcer" of the idea to bring ham to Merc, he had to persuade hamilton, Daimler wanted a german driver in a german car, but Lauda made a "stubborn choice" and Merc considered it as a gamble
