It is a actual medical treatment that does serve a purpose however some fuckwit decided it's the best way to fix basically every problem. However nowadays it's rarely used and only used as a last resort for patients who other methods failed to help. "shock therapy and psychosurgery (the surgical removal of specific regions of the brain) occasionally are used to treat patients whose symptoms have resisted all other treatments."

@@JenTCC Basically it is a (brutal) surgical intervention in the brain in which the pathways connecting the frontal lobes to the thalamus and other associated frontal pathways are sectioned. It has been used in the past in severe cases of schizophrenia and major depression. Today it is no longer practiced due to severe side effects (permanent personality change, risk of death, and much more ethical and safer alternatives to neural treatment - although techniques derived from the original are still applied in very specific cases where no other alternative is viable).

It was used to treat mental illnesses in the early 20th century but it's not practiced any more because, shockingly, stabbing the brain has pretty bad side effects. The way they did it was they took what was basically an ice pick and hammered it through the eye socket, between the eye and nose. Pretty grisly

A lobotomy is a procedure where they sever connections in the prefrontal cortex, it was often used without proper justification or to make "troublesome" patients in asylums a lot more "manageable" i.e. a vegetable. There are cases where lobotomies were relatively successful in the rare circumstances that they were called for and were pretty much the only option left The procedure itself and the science is pretty fucking brutal. I know it’s been 2 years but in my experience fighting the marauder, it’s actually very easy to kill him, first you wait until his eyes flash green, there you super shotgun his face -> ballista -> super shotgun again, then shoot the ballista at the ground directly next to him, it’s pretty tricky to get but once you get it it’s actually quite easy and quick Edit: I haven’t played TAG dlcs so I’m speaking from just base game experience :/
