This time, the highlights were inadequate because I want to understand the yellow card. You could see Jeon was upset at the end. For 3 sets she played really well, but I’m happy for Hina because....she’s blossoming into the kind of player I didn’t predict when she was 16-17. Most powerful topspins of any Japanese woman now. If these two play again in the upcoming Asian championship it’ll be very interesting.

Yellow card was because of rule after Covid 19, which bans "Hoo" to the ball

@@성이름-r5l8v Thank you. I've now watched all the match and frustratingly, on the TV Tokyo video, the second alleged infringement is off camera, but....I have sympathy for Jeon because it was, I guess, a habitual action she's been doing for years and as such it was completely unconscious. Bloody difficult to completely eliminate that kind of habit. That said, she accepted the first warning in the previous set so she clearly has a conscious understanding of the Covid protocol. I just feel sadness for her. The first 3 sets, watching them complete, were as well as I've ever seen her play. As good as when she deservedly beat Chen Meng in that TT diamond....2 years ago (definitely not one of the fake victories CM occasionally hands out to her opponents). I thought there were signs the balance of play was already shifting before the yellow card - Hayata changed her service direction significantly previous set and was starting to get more cheap service points. But still, Jeon was winning some brilliant rallies, had some momentum, and it felt like the 5th set was on a knife edge. I hope for a rematch, minus the yellow card, this week.
@robertrowles5450
@robertrowles5450 3 жыл бұрын
Have now realised the first infringement wasn’t for breathing on the ball. No evidence, on camera, that she did it at that time. I think it was for delaying, but I’m not sure. Makes the second incident seem more unfair. I can definitely understand the tears at the end. A crappy umpire.

It's very obvious to me that Jeon Jihee lost the game due to the yellow card given by the referee, and the decision was the most ridiculous one I have even seen. To my eyes, it's just the referee showing off her authority unreasonably. If blowing air towards the ball is a yellow-card worthy offence, they shouldn't have held the tournament in the first place. This event happened on the assumption that all players were free from Covid. They must have taken PCR tests, god knows how many times, and playing with no masks, sweating is okay but hoo on the ball is yellow card? No thoughts, logics, whatsoever from the referee. I am not saying Hayata doesn't deserve to win, in fact, I know she is one of the top players and so is Jihee, and this is why a silly yellow card could make a huge difference in the game bewteen two top players.

Are you serious?? She can't blow air in the direction of the ball? How they are even playing If that's the case? I mean, they are alive and blowing air everywhere. Maybe they should be wearing scuba gear to avoid that. Jihee is clearly a superior player. Clown World is real.

What caused the yellow card? I watched another video that showed the entire match, but I was not able to see what happened for the second yellow card because there was a long replay during the incident. But I was able to see the incident that caused the first yellow card. Here is the list of events that led to the first yellow card. (1) It happened in the 4th game when Jeon was leading the match 3 to 0. (She needed one more game to win the match.) (2) It happened after the count of the game became 2-2 when Hayata's return did not land on the table. (3) The ball went all the way back in the Jeon's side of the court, and she had to pick it up to give Hayata for her serve. -- The chain of actions followed was something unusual -- (4) Jeon did not return the ball to Hayata immediately. Instead, she did the following: (5) She held the ball in her left hand behind her racket. (6) She blew air on the rubber of her racket. (7) She rubbed the (now wet) rubber with her right hand. (7) She moved the ball from her left hand to her right hand. (8) Then she rolled the ball inside her (now wet) right hand. (9) Finally she returned the (now wet) ball to Hayata. The referee gave the first yellow card at this point before Hayata attempted to serve. Why did she give the yellow card? It was, perhaps, because of (A) intentional delay of the game and/or (B) a conduct that might have unfairly affected her opponent by giving a ball with a different condition for serve.

I watched a video of the full match, but unfortunately they showed replays during the incident that must have happened between plays. So I could not tell what happened. The commentator guessed that she wiped the table with her hand - an action that is prohibited by a new rule introduced due to Covid-19. It was her second yellow card in the match and therefor her opponent got a point, making the set count 5-5.

Hayata's game is far more exciting and energetic than Mima's or Miu Hirano's. More brushing of the ball, wrist work, away from the table counter attacks. Her taller height gives her movements more grace than the two shorties. The two just stick to the table and mostly depend on their short pimples for fast, flat counter hits. Much less variety and so mechanical in their play. Great comeback from Hayata.! 👍👏..

Therefore, it is quite pathetic to hold such a patronizing attitude while pinpointing the trivial mistakes of others. Also, Japan currently is miles better than South Korea in every single discipline of table tennis. Did you watch the Asian Championships team finals yesterday? Japan did not even have Ito Mima, Kasumi Ishikawa, and Miu Hirano, but they easily rolled over South Korea's first team as if it were nothing. Please wake up and smell the coffee mate lol. South Koreans have this massive inferiority complex over Japan in every single domain.
