Alex's book says that Cindy received a DVD of her appearances on Jeopardy! prior before they went on the air, so she DID get see herself on the show before she died.

While she didn't get to see them on television, Jeopardy! made a DVD of her appearances and sent it to her, which she was able to watch while in the hospital. It's amazing that the show was so kind to her without giving her special treatment. It's really incredible.

It is such a lovely gift to her friends and family to see her compete after her passing. I hope they will get a DVD of her episodes somehow. She was really sick while she competed, so for her to have won as many shows as she did displays her strong spirit.

They did get an advance DVD of three of the episodes according to a couple news articles, so although she only saw part of it, she lived all of it.

For the past six Jeopardy programs, you folks have been getting to know the talented champion, Cindy Stowell. Appearing on our show was the fulfillment of a lifelong ambition for that lady. What you did not know is that when we taped these programs with her a few weeks ago, she was suffering from Stage 4 cancer. And sadly on December 5th, Cindy Stowell passed away. So from all of us here in Jeopardy, our sincere condolences to her family and her friends.

It’s devastating to hear Cindy Stowell has passed away very young age after six Jeopardy! shows winning over $100,000 but then three years later Alex announced back in March of 2019 he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and tells America I must host Jeopardy! for three years. But it’s very sad that a year and a half ago Alex passed away November 8, 2020 nearly two years ago this year to reunite with Cindy Stowell.😞😢

@dab72716 жыл бұрын
Saddest part of this, in my opinion, was when Cindy finally lost after a six-game winning run, Alex didn't say "we'll see you in the tournament of champions" to Cindy, like he normally does when contestants have won that many games. That's because he knew that although she would have qualified for the TOC, she would not live long enough to compete in it....heartbreaking :(
@Splinter487085 жыл бұрын
She had told Alex and the producers ahead of time that she was dying from her cancer. It was something that she asked remain a secret until her passing. Well, she died a week before her episodes aired and Alex and the show runner(s) decided to let the folks at home know that she passed away.

When Alex taped his tribute, he obviously didn't know that the media would let J! fans know fairly well in advance about her appearing on the show and her stage 4 cancer, and that she had passed on, because indeed those watching the show DID know. Of course the media did not say how many shows she did nor how much she ended up winning/donating to cancer organizations. It was probably best that she was defeated instead of having to pass on while still champion. I wonder if the person that defeated Cindy had any comment on the situation.
@jessicalillianweinberg44015 жыл бұрын
The news that she had died did leak out before the airing of the episodes, but not how much she had won. It's pretty amazing that outcomes of Jeopardy matches, which are taped in advance, don't leak out more often in this day and age. Alex has been known to refer to a contestant as "still alive," when they are not doing great, not in the lead, perhaps even in third going into Final - but they still have a theoretical, mathematical chance to win. He used that phrase about Cindy at one point during one game.

@jmazz11277 жыл бұрын
What a ridiculous comment. While it is extremely sad that she passed away and can not be in the ToC. She was the winner and not some family member. How would that be fair to the other winners and losers also. PS she probably would have done very well in it.

Well what happens when there isnt a minimum number of five day plus champions, theyll open it up to people who won 4 days with a buttload of money. So Cindys spot will probably go to one of those people.
