Easily one of the best scenes in the series. IMHO the best intro scene, with Castiel's coming in a close 2nd. There was a perfect quiet gravitas to it, I half expected the sidewalk to crack under his feet.

I love that death was painted as completely neutral. Like a force of nature. He is completely uncaring of ruling power, unloyal to all. He is only loyal is life.

I love how emotional you get with the characters you connect to. You getting teary eyed over Crowley helping Bobby get his legs back is part of the reason I stay around.

Cas isn't fully human. Though he is close. When Anna was human she had cut out her grace but Castiel still got his. Also "Angel with a Shotgun" is 100% Cas's song.

Dean and Death just always works for me. It's an endlessly fascinating dynamic. I love this episode. Favorite line though. Pestilence: How did you get here? Cas: A bus.

Matt Fewer played Pestilence. He was amazing! He won a LEO Award for this role, which is given out by the British Columbia, Canada film & television industry, which is where Supernatural was filmed. It is like our Oscar & Emmy awards. BTW - 2 Minutes to Midnight is in reference to the Doomsday Clock, which as of January 24, 2023, sits at 1 minute 30 seconds due to the added crisis of Russia in Ukraine & the increased risk of nuclear escalation. 10 seconds closer than last year. Death's entrance...awesome. Excellent all around. Love the picture on Crowley's cell phone!

One of the things I love about Supernatural is how we get such fascinating takes on such established figures. I think out of all media, Supernatural has my favorite portrayals of both Lucifer and Death. They're just...amazing.

@@JerBearReacts He really is. And Jensen Ackles' subtleties in that scene only add to it. He's spent the last five seasons shit-talking angels, demons, even Lucifer himself; but when faced with Death - *Death* - you can see that he's truly scared.

I love Death, Because he's not a bad guy, he's just an ancient being doing his job. As far as we know up til this point, he doesn't kill people, he only takes them when it's their time to go, he collects them and brings them to their destination, no middle ground, this is the only time in which he killed people before their time, when Lucifer was making him.

SPOILERS FOR SEASONS SIX AND EIGHT And then the hypocrisy continues when they (mostly Dean) give Cas such a hard time for working with Crowley ("we don't go making another deal with the devil!"), when they are perfectly willing to work with him here. They trust Crowley to also want to avoid the Apocalypse, which is the same issue with Raphael, so why is it suddenly awful to work with Crowley? Sometimes I want to pick up Dean and shake him, my dude, why are things suddenly okay when YOU do it, but not when your brother or friend do it on their own? Same with befriending monsters, it's fine when Dean befriends a vampire, but Sam can't have monster friends. I love Dean, and I get he has his trauma and disturbed sense of responsibility and all that, but I wish his bullshit would get called out more often in the story!

@@ancatdal "a hard time for working with Crowley ("we don't go making another deal with the devil!"), when they are perfectly willing to work with him here" Between those moments there was an episode "Weekend at Bobby" where Crowley betrayed Bobby and lied to him., and after that the boys couldn't trust him anymore. Also, Dean was angry because Cas FORCED them to work FOR Crowley (not WITH hm) by blackmailing them, telling them Crowley had Sam's soul (he didn't). Cas knew all that, knew that Crowley couldn't help Sam, and STILL continued lying to Sam and Dean.

@@janematthews3394 STILL SPOILERS BELOW First of, could you edit your post so that the quote gets put below the 'read more', I don't want to spoil anything. Now, I just to make one thing clear; I think it's 100% fair to be upset that your friend has lied to you, even manipulated you, no matter their intentions. Absolutely not faulting them for that aspect. I'm only criticizing the way in which they treat working with Crowley as something obviously bad you should never do. Bobby compares it to "Superman going dark side". Not a "we can't trust this person to be honest with us or treat us fairly", but rather a "our friend has gone Evil, and we need to stock up on Kryptonite to stop him, obviously whatever they are doing is Wrong". And Dean says "When crap like this comes around, we deal with it, like we always have. What we don’t do is go out and make another deal with the devil.” But that's blalantly untrue; they keep making "deals with the devil" again and again, even when it's "only" to save each other, not even the world. And they just recently worked with Crowley on multiple occassions. So acting like Cas should have known better than to partner up with Crowley in a desperate attempt to save the world, like it's obviously morally unjustifiable or even evil, is honestly insulting. Especially when you consider that here in season 5, they've exhausted all opportunities, and gotten so desperate that they are ready to throw Sam into the Cage with Lucifer forever. Or at least I assume that they looked everywhere they possibly could for another way, that they wrecked their brains for another option; if there was some other way of dealing with archangels, surely they would have tried that? So insisting that they could "deal with it, like we always have" without resorting to "dealing with the devil" is utter nonsense, and no one offers up any alternate suggestions, not even a suggestion for where they could start to search for another way. Without that, the options on the table are Apocalypse or Purgatory, and they don't say they're accepting another go at the Apocalypse in preference to dealing with the unknown of Purgatory, they act as if a third option is guaranteed, which it isn't. And I just find that all deeply, deeply unfair. It doesn't take anything away from how Cas has wronged them, but it just really gets to me so much, because it goes unchallenged within the story, whereas Cas' wrongs towards him get highlighted. And that just rubs me the wrong way.

I think one of the big reasons they didn't have Matt Frewer for more episodes is probably because he's more expensive per episode than the regular characters. That's usually the reason for filler episodes and fewer main characters. They can pay extras and character actors less than people who are more well known, and then pay the occasional well known actor for a small part.

Julian Richlings is GREAT as Death. This is the second best introduction in the series. Sometimes I think it's the best. Depends on my mood. The casting director did a fantastic job with all four horsemen. A demon deal cannot be completed unless sealed with a kiss. Remember that, that's important throughout the series. FYI, you can't eat Chicago pizza with your hands. It's too heavy.

Sad thing is either way Dean will lose Sam. The only real question is if it will be on Sam’s terms and if Dean will live after it or want to live after it
